Ive heard rumours of a cabin air filter being in our cars.

is this it?

It looks kind of filtery. If thats indeed an air filter it most DEFINATLY needs to be replaced. I dont wanna breath that shit.

No we don't have cabin air filters. That stuff you see is old worn out foam rubber that is glued on interior parts to keep rattles away, such as when wires or cables may come in contact with the piece once it was installed. You touch that stuff and it will turn to dust after all this time.

so when i turn on my blowers, all sorts of leafs blow into my car. weird thing is that its leafs from a tree that i have never seen before. my guess its junk thats piled in there from the last owner. where do i go to clean this crap out?

We don't have any sort of filter. The pic you posted is the vent door. Push the REC button and you'll see it open.

If you remove the windshield wipers and the cowl you'll see where the fresh air intake is. Clean out all the crap and put a screen or even a piece of a furnace filter over the holes. I have a screen on one of my cars and a filter on the other. The filter is great because you don't get the dust, though FRESH airflow is decreased substantially.
