Getting oil-soot on back of bumper. (516k miles) Someone said to go to a heavier weight oil - would you agree? I run Castrol 10W40. What would you recommend going to?

I never heard of a 3G burning oil and no 10 30W is good for these cars or 40w too no higher and we already have a thread about oil weight

I'll go hunt for the thread if it addresses this problem. I have seen 3Gs burning oil badly before and over time those rings wear and from what I hear, the cylinders can become oval-shaped which can allow oil to get burned. It happens.

I know it's a Honda, but damn! That's a lot of miles. Go ahead and try some 20W50 and see if it helps. It won't hurt anything, except it might crank slower when it's really cold out.

that and with the 20w-50 you might see higher oil pressures more so when the engine is cold

I've been told to use 20w50 only if you do a lot of high end with the revs..otherwise it'll be too heavy? :dunno:
