I've tried search, can't find an answer. Racing an A20a3 on a circle track, all components have to remain stock. We have access to 110 octane Sonoco race fuel. Will it help? Maybe a mix? Also any suggestions on timing. Thank you for your help!

yes it can help...now you can advance your timing a whole lot so you get a better power band

Thank you Messy Honda. Is there a place I can look up more information?

You can actually hurt performance in a stock car by running higher octane fuel. Most road cars have a recommended octane number of the fuel which should be used. The compression that takes place in the combustion chamber and the internal engine temperatures while running are suited to work efficiently with the recommended fuel rating. Make sure it's not leaded as well 110 racing fuels come in leaded which can damage 02 sensors and clog catalys converters.

Thanks kraftaroni. I didn't think about the O2, we are allowed to straight pipe. Any other help would be great! If you have spare time, the rules are on acespeedway.com@AOL. If you look at pictures,it will be the white #94 second gen. Prelude. My 14 year old son drives the black #93 Escort, soon to be gone for a Honda.

yeah you can add timing but i wouldnt expect a noticeable improvement. I would start to get sneaky

you can advance timing but you will need to "match" your tire set up and tune to find your power band and where you can leave it floored most comfortably.
you want a good holeshot, then at the same time a good WOT.. which is usually what I would call a sweet spot regarding timing... so yes if you use the racing gas, keep using it. It doesnt take a whole tank, just a blend.
yes there are plenty of ways to stay out front

Here's where I'm confused...you race a 2nd gen lude, and you came here instead of Preludepower? WTF is wrong with you? Get over there; we eat this stuff up. And bring some pictures.

I don't see racing fuel making any difference at all. You only need higher octane fuel if you can't advance the timing enough to reach maximum brake torque without the engine knocking. This isn't going to happen on a stock engine. You might be able to get a little more power by advancing the timing beyond factory spec, but unless there is something wrong with it it will start losing power before it knocks. The compression ratio of these engines isn't high enough to need higher octane fuel.

Now if you were to say, have a shop do a valve job on the head and they *accidentally* skimmed 1-2mm off the surface, you would end up with a higher compression ratio that might require higher octane fuel, and *might* produce more power.

Thanks to everyone! We tried straight racing fuel and the car freaked. We're running 93 octane in it now. We had timing at 25 and it felt like it was in a strain. moved it to 15 for tonight, see how that works. We have been racing for seven years, we have been running Fords. But, this is our first time with the Honda. This car has been so great that I am changing my sons name to something Japanese!Any suggestion are greatly appreciated! About the car, not his name! knifemind, I posted there one time a couple of months ago,on another racers thread. I am new to forums and am trying to learn posting etiquite, but he had a fit so I moved on. These folks at this forum have been really helpful!

We got rained out. Did get to make a round of practice, new timing seemed to help. Might bump it a little and see what happens. Suggestions are still welcome! Thanks!

Is E-85 available around you. Its 2.29 a gallon here and rated like 105 octane. Im running about 30% I mix with with 87 octane. It might run a little cooler as well it does in my BB chrysler.

E 85, I haven't thought of that. I'm going to do a little checking at our local gas distributor and see! Thanks!
