Just sorted some Wantanebe SSR R8 spilt rims in 14" x 6" ET38 and am needing to now get some tyres. My question is on the sizes. The current tyres are 185/65/14 which means the sidewall looks quite big on relatively thin tyres. I wonder if there are any downsides to going for either a 195/60/14 where the sidewall will be much the same size or going for either 185/55/14 or 185/60/14 to try and make the sidewalls look a bit smaller and slightly reduce the ride height (I want to keep standard suspension).
Thanks,

195/60/14 is stock tire size so it should fit...your rim is just half an inch wider so i dont think it would be a problem

Cheers buddy - mine are defo 185/65/14's on there now so maybe the previous owner just wanted some skinny tyres for some reason?

Probably because 185/65/14's are cheaper than 60 series tires by about 20%. I tried to buy some 185/65's a few months ago, but Sam's and Costco have my car in their "books" as only allowing the sale of tires wider than stock, not narrower. How big of a deal is 1cm, really? Also, the 185's on your car may be T or S rated which, again, brings down the cost compared to an H rating (OEM standard). I currently have 14x6 aftermarket rims with 195/60/14, 85H. Their "books" also state that I am supposed to have at least 89H (load rating), but those are harder to find and I have been using 85H's for years so they did sell them to me.
