Thanks, but i alredy had a 3rd gen, 87. Bought that two years ago. One winter MASSACRED it, been lookin for a nice EX-i ever since. My display picture is my 87.

So one question, are the door panels in two peices? is the cloth seperated from the vinil? If it is, i'd love to put my door panels from the 87 in instead. I think they'd look way better.

Ayeobe
07-05-2010, 08:31 PM
The same thing that happened to the front light, i guess. He alredy replaced the fender and corner lights, which is why the fender dosnt line up with the door. But the hubcap is gonna dissapear. Gona put my chrome/black minty-fresh H logos on those black steelies. Maybe paint the steelies gloss black when i can, too.

Clean purchase. As for door panels mine are one piece. I do not believe the doors changed so I wouldn't see why you couldn't swap them. I haven't seen any EX's around where I live.

I need to use only the fabric part cause the front doors i think had tweets on the vinil, theres holes near the dash. I'd like to take my cassette holders, but the new one is AT, and old is MT. Does it still just swap over?

Also, the rear seats are fold down as we know, so theres the extra cushoned part between the seats and the rear doors. They need to come out with the parts im swapping, to keep it all the same fabric. I hope its not too hard.

Kay, Progress! (pics later)

I took the hubcaps off, 2 minty ones, one has a chip, and the 4th is massacred. Put the 4 H logos on the center and polished up the rims. Also washed and detailed the whole car, after changing the headlight cover.. which didnt align right. The hood actually sits ontop of the light cover a little. Perhaps i didnt put the motor arm on at the right angle? it looks like maybe its not closing all the way.

I found an issue, the inner bumper is bent, and the headlight's black plastic cover dosnt clear it. I guess i need to pull off the bumper.

Prety long update..

Edit: Pictures..or a couple.

I think we've gone over this. Take pictures of the two center consoles you have. Yes, the cassette holder will swap if the other cars has the console with the hole. If it doesn't, you'll have to swap out the entire front portion. While doing this, since one is a manual and one is automatic, you'll have to swap the square piece that goes around the auto shifter for the leather manual boot.

While the cars are complete, you should do some pre- and post-facelift comparison shots.

Hah, nice. I asked a guy who says he's a master mechanic, but he says "it dosnt swap over" ... im just gona stick to asking you guys if anything gets complicated, like that headlight cover for example.

Here's a good one, i need a new front bumper. Like, the whole thing. Plastic and metal. Im gona take the plastic bumper off the 87, but can i take the metal part too? Anyone know? The bumper on the 89 is bent up, which is why i dont have the plastic parts on the headlight yet. They dont clear the bumper.

charliekuney
07-15-2010, 03:36 PM
Take both bumpers off, take a look for identical-ness. There was a facelift, so there's a high probability that they won't swap, but people do swap them a lot. Ask someone who has.

Ayeobe

Small update, i got the old accords cassette holder in, and its more brown then red. it dosnt match perfectly with the new interior. I might just swap the part around the handbrake aswell, to make them match.
I also armor-all'd the whole interior and vaccumed everything. it looks waaay better.

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y188/aob19/CIMG0787.jpg
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y188/aob19/CIMG0791.jpg

I also added the right side headlight plastic, and pulled the fuze for the retractor motor on that side, so it dosnt crunch up my only good plastic parts for that side against the bumper. It winks now.

Thanks guys. I like the winking, but ill be happy when i can make both flip at the same time again, with all the peices in place. What do you guys think of the steelies? Im considering those around-the-rim chrome "hubcaps" to go with the H logos, but im not sure. it kinda looks good as it is.

Anyway, tomorow i might tool a bit more, though i have a feeling getting the handbrake cover peice off is gona be intresting, and only so it matches with the peice i swapped.. lol. Ill see how the weather is tomorow.

Lookin forward to more coments, guys, and thanks for the coments so far!

I also armor-all'd the whole interior...

1) That's the fading problem I've seen to only occur in '86-88. Neither of my 89's had this problem, but both of my 88's did.

2) NEVER, EVER use Armor All in these interiors. It ruins them.

Thanks guys. I like the winking, but ill be happy when i can make both flip at the same time again, with all the peices in place. What do you guys think of the steelies? Im considering those around-the-rim chrome "hubcaps" to go with the H logos, but im not sure. it kinda looks good as it is.

You should leave them both up for the time being, and keep the steelies with "H" caps. It's very sex.

I hate you, by the way.

I want a sedan now.

Ayeobe
07-19-2010, 08:25 AM
Damn, i alredy armor-all'd it. But the 87 got armor-all and it didnt get ruined? It just gets shiny. Is there anything else to use to shine up the black plastic, at least? As for the headlights, i am leaving them both up, but i kinda do a salute to who-ever has pop-ups, or other accords as i drive by, by poping the lights. Right now, it just winks lol. And, sedans are awesome. lol. How-ever, if i can find a nice hatch, im gona buy it, cause i still want a manual car.

So, steelies with no chrome? Alright. They do look sick, freakin original rims, but all cleaned up.

As for the fading problem, the handbrake on the 89 is more broun than red, like the interior of the 87, so if i swap out the part that goes around the handbrake, itll actually look better. It rained today, though, so im gona probabily do it tomorow.

charliekuney
07-19-2010, 10:43 AM
Over time, the Armor All (with extended use and some sun) will crack the soft materials such as the dash, parts of the door panels, the handbrake, etc.

Salute on, my friend. When you have both. ;)

Get a sedan with a stick.

What were you going to chrome on the steelies?

Again, fading: half of the interior in the last two cars I had were brown, but the first two stayed deep red. I dunno, maybe it's just the cars I've had. The browning effect is gross, though.

Finding a nice stick sedan around here is damn hard. If i find a Hatch in a JY in FL, ill build her up, and ill have the sedan for cruising in comfort, and a MT hatch for having some fun.

BTW i just put a casette in the car for the first time, and i didnt know that when you turn off the car it pops it back out... :omg: Freaked me out LOL

I love your car!

I happen to have a brand new (yeah, brand new) 86-87 sedan rear bumper here that's still on the primer. If you want it, it's yours. I just want to have some used parts from your older sedan for my hatch.

We could even do a little photoshoot with my car and yours.

BTW, you need fog lights to go in those missing covers.

Ayeobe
07-20-2010, 07:20 PM
I was going to use the front bumper for the 89 aswell as the rear. My rear is in bad shape, tho, so perhaps we can arange something. When would you be able to meet up? I have thursdays and saterdays off. BTW i added you on MSN, but you alwease seem to be busy, so hit me up.

So, i hear a bit of a knock, but not loud enough to be a knock, under the hood. I gave it a listen, but i couldnt figure it out. It might be one of the pulleys, maybe a realy loud valve click among the less-loud ones, i dont know. But its kinda worrysome. Perhaps ill take a vid if you guys want, and ill have the guy who i helped rebuild the engine for his 86 Mustang GT have a listen, aswell.

For some reason, the light sits too low when its closed, but its far enough forward. It also dosnt sit completley closed, which im prety sure is why it dosnt sit flush with the fender. Maybe its about the arm and what angle its bolted into the motor?

Yeah, the car is prety minty. Just needs a bumper up front, and a headlight bucket alignment (ehhh..) and then the courtesy lights in the front doors dont work. If all that's fixed, its pretymuch bran new.

Okay, tiny update.. and a question. I went to two honda dealers, and nither of them had Honda keys for our old cars. They didnt have ither the Valet or the master keys, and i realy would love to have them for this minty fresh accord.. So, im wondering if theres any honda dealerships who still have them? Or, where can i get some?

In other news, i took a few shots at like 3:30am again, near the olympic stadium.

What kind of key do you want?

They sell these plastic keys on Ebay and I know Honda de Sigi had Ilco Plastic Keys like 3 years ago.

They're not labeled "HONDA" tough...

Ayeobe

Yeah, i want the "HONDA" ones. My 87 has the Valet key, too, but i dont have a plastic covered one with HONDA on it for ither accord. It upsets me, a little. They dont seem to exsist anymore, though.

It seems the next thing im gona have to deal with is my headlight bucket. I think its still a little messed up, but i dont know what's going on in there. I dont realy have
much knolege about how this is suposed to work, as i never delt with it on the 87, so im not sure where to start. Heres pics of the problem:

Mine isnt perfect, you should see the list of things to improove lol.

Body work:
"Fix the over 9000 tiny little rust spots" (i think theres like 5 or 6)
Some-how pull the dents out of the rear doors
re-paint the front right fender
get a new bumper, and a pre-facelift bumper cover
Get the stupid FR headlight bucket to sit right and work right...
To keep with the pre-facelift look, im gona swap out all the side trim aswell.
Also, who thinks the rear bumper lip looks stupid, when theres no front bumper lip? I stare at it sometimes like "Why would you do that?" lol.

Matenence:
All liquids flush/change, and replace a few hoses
FR upper balljoint
RL Upper controll arm
Alignment
Not sure where to put "Paint valve cover"

Thats pretymuch it. To acheive perfection my car must have all that done to it. Then, to make me happy it must be manual lol. That might be a while, though, as im prety sure the AT works fine.

Thanks for the comments guys! i was prety happy to have the opertuenity to take such awesome pictures for you gents!

Lol. This car is addicting. It's sitting out front, and im wondering where i could drive to. Not for any reason, just cause i wana drive it. its nuts. Sadly i just realised because the driveway was re-paved, i cant park in it n do work. Not sure if ill be able to use it to do work at all.. I hope so. the job that makes the biggest mess is the coolant flush, and thats basically water and ..whatever coolant is. so, it shouldnt stain right? Anyway, i cant wait to get started.. all the body trim and bumpers will have to wait a while, cause im gona concentrate on the mechanicals, and keep the body work for maybe during the winter when i have a better job, and more cash, and alot less want to drive the car.

bryan6732
08-19-2010, 12:05 PM
Not sure about the coolant, cause there's also some lubricating fluid in it (and anti freeze).
Something lubricating will be oil I guess... But would be nice if anyone could confirm this since I'm not 100% sure :P

Ayeobe

To answer my question, i think im getting her a battry and an altornator. Turns out the alt dosnt charge well under 1200rpm, so it looks like im gona get to do what i didnt do in the 87, heh. Batt will be dropped in out of the 87, probabily.

Before doin all of this, im gona make sure everything is well connected.. I guess, no matter what the mileage, a 22 year old car is a 22 year old car.

Alright, not much of an update. Still havnt been able to do much, and theres not much to do. Oil chage will be ASAP, and so will coolant flush.. soon as i figure out how to dispose of it?

So, a bit of a concern now. My freakin fuel light hasnt come on. Ive been on Empty for about 35km i guess, and im not sure if its gonna come on tomorow, or ever. kinda makes me nervous. I do rather want to see that yellow light slowly fade on.. and off again. Seriously. Any ways to diagnose it short of taking stuff apart? I guess the easyest way of doing it would be to get to the console.. but if theres another way, i'm all ears.

Just fill it up and check how much you had to fill it with..
I think there will be someone on this forum who can tell you at which point the empty light should come on. I can't, since we here in Europe work with Liters instead of Gallons ;)

carotman
09-15-2010, 04:53 AM
We use Litres in Canada too.

If you want to have that thing diagnosed, it's rather simple. Pop the access port in the trunk area for the fuel gauge unit. The shop manual tells you how to check it.

Both of my Accords never had a working fuel light :( The problem lies in the sending unit, not the gauge cluster.

I'll show you how to diagnose this next time we meet :D

keep a couple litres of petrol in a bottle or something in the car, and just keep driving and see what happens first. either the light will come on, or you will run out lol. and you will have your emergency fuel with you

I roll on steelies, no matter what the time of year.. But, i dont think ill bother getting the snow tires. If i do drive it, itll be around the block to keep it running. She's gona stay nice and warm ...somewhere, this winter. Save 300$ on snow tires, and a few years of life on the car, which is priceless.

CLEAR YOUR PRIVATE MESSAGES.

Since I'm not about to rewrite this, here's my response:

It was like ... smoke gray? lol close to black, and metallic. prety awesome exterior color, but the light gray leather interior freaks me out lol.

Freaks you out? Yeah, it's a really dark grey color: Almost Granada Black (http://3geez.wiki-tv.com/Image:Nh-503p.jpg), but more smokey and metallic like you said.

That's the second SE-i special color for the sedan, the first (more common) is the Tuscany Taupe (http://3geez.wiki-tv.com/Image:Yr-92m.jpg) you see around here a lot.

Coupes had Brittany Blue (http://3geez.wiki-tv.com/Image:BG-23m.jpg) and Charcoal Granite (http://3geez.wiki-tv.com/Image:BG-23m.jpg) (with tan and black interiors, respectively), but they've also shown up around here in two LX-i colors: Navajo Red (http://3geez.wiki-tv.com/Image:R-70m.jpg) and Monterey Green (http://3geez.wiki-tv.com/Image:Bg-20m.jpg).

No new pics.. she's sat most of the month. I have a concern, though

Some times when i turn the key to start it, it dont give a damn and just cranks for ever... then i turn it off, and back on, and it starts instantly.
I know the main relay works badly in hot weather ... but the weather is far from hot.. Would it still be the main relay, or should i be lookin at other things when the weather thaws out?

Ah, thats true. but it happens so seldomly that i didnt think to listen for the click, cause it worked, then didnt, then worked again.. so i guess ill listen for it every time i try and start the motor.. Its a suuuper intermittent problem. Last time it happened was like in september or something

Hey glad to hear from you.

Make sure you get some spare cash and fill the fuel tank. With these cold temps, there will be condensation in the fuel system that could cause rust or starting problems.

Tdurr: yeah man ... my oil leak is the main rear seal.. so, its gona be fun.. also a bit of oil from the valve cover gasket. The underside needs a new undervoating, but otherwise its prety damn clean.. Im still impressed by the condition, for a quebec car.

'sup Carotman. I have a few things we should meet up for. I'd rather like that Honda key you were gona give me, and i have some cosmetic concerns i'd like to adress, that i'd like some help with.. Also, that oil leak is the Main Rear engine seal, so... engine pull soon? Gona be a hell of a summer.
I took the plastic peices off of the wheel arches, and they have some rust.. not tooo bad, but the left rear is the worse. I have some pictures, if you want to see them. Anyway, PM me, or we can chat on MSN.

Once a few cosmetic things are taken care of, ill be happy to roll down and get a photo shoot done. Sounds like a good idea to me, I'm going to go out hunting for some good locations in a few weeks I might have a place about 5 to 10 minutes away that's got some old abandoned and run down buildings around that might come out looking pretty sweet. Just took my carpet up. Its soaaaked.. its drying now on a railing.. hopefully itll be dry before it rains.

the limbs n such in the pic are my brothers, i took moments to take pics while workin lol. I didnt get any pics of the carpet-less floor, but ill get some soon. The horrid amounts of water that was in my car was due to the drain "valve" thing on the inside of the fender being like | instead of _ so the water didnt drain out.. and also, both(?) (passenger and drivers side) tubes leak some at the joints.. so im gona have to figure out how to seal em. Not broken, or cracked.. they just leak where the clear plastic joins the black plastic...

Enough to leak all the way to the end of the driveway from this hole that un-sealed in the floor.. duno why they put so many holes in the floor at the factory :S

Forgot to grab pics of the floor ... it was thundering, and i barely got the interior in before it started straight dumping buckets of water from the sky. Visal helped me out, too. Thanks alot man! Anyway the interior is in now, and the balljoints are done. Just gotta fix that spring, and call it a day basically.

Wondering if theres anything to do to better seal the joint between the clear plastic tube and the black plastic that goes to the outside? This being the sunroof/antenae drain..

I had the same problem, and I noticed that the rubber drain pipe does not go as an open hole; a piece of rubber covers the opening and water weight would eventually open the covering. Mine did not work that way so I just got rid of the extra rubber with a cutter. If you can take the piece out you may see it better though; I just went by touch inside the fender and cut the rubber that felt loose

Now i need the right side one!

pre-facelift tail lights:
http://img254.imageshack.us/img254/4979/dsc052691280.jpg

I also have the trunk lid at the house where the parts car was, and ill head over there to grind down some serface rust and put a thin layer of bondo, prime and paint. Bonus is its in better condition than mine, cos mine's somehow accumulating water inside it.

Im missing the left tail, cos someone grabbed it off the parts car before me.. i spoke to the guy, though, and i MIGHT be able to get it off him.. Also, he said he has bran new pre-facelift trim in his garage, so i should be grabbin that off him, aswell. I also got the rear window trim that my car was missing, and spare headlight plastic, and a ton of headlight screws and the lil white clips the screws screw into.. and a few other little things.

Once i get all the trim, and fix up a few scratches on the front bumper, (and get the rear bumper) itll go to paint, and get installed.

Step one: Straighten front end out..

Hey there guys! Just stopping by to mention im just about done collecting all the parts to make it pre-facelift. I got everything but the side trim. OEM EQ is on the way, though i need new speakers..

If anyone has some good-condition side trim around, for a pre-facelift sedan, or for the front fenders it dosnt matter if its hatch or sedan.. i'd love to hear from you. I'll be dropping by Honda on Monday to see if they still have them, and for how much, and ill let you guys know.

The project would have been done, but the car decided to start being needy, and i've replaced the muffler/tailpipe, upper controll arm/bushings for the FR again, i think im gonna have to do the tierod on the left again, too (cheap parts dont work for people living in an area with shit roads) and i did brake hoses, and ..yeah the list goes on.

You guys can, however, look forward to me straightening the front end out, painting the bumpers and trim and trunk lid, wiring up the premie tails to work with the 89, and getting it all done by max mid november, so expect a pre-facelift OEM (aside for steelies) OEM lipped, EQ-and-arm-rest equipped 4dr EX-i 3gee by then!

Heres some pics to appease you 'till then.

Double Possssst.

Honda has no side trim for the pre-facelift. Shoulda asked for post facelift just to ask.. Even if they did, it'd be 450$ or so for both sides..

Gonna call a guy that said he has some in new condition, but the guy never answers so this should be fun..

Ayeobe
12-10-2012, 02:24 PM
Im feeling ashamed.

The car is not ready, it is as it was last post i made. The only diffrence is that i changed the altornator and battry, and im saving up for the work that needed to be done, plus hopefully a full re-spray of the car, cos apparently just doing the bumpers and trim, and trunk lid, will look stupid.

That being said, the car needs new fenders, front and back, cos the back ones started to rust now, despite my best efforts. The previous owner did a good job making sure the inner-fenders would rust, by driving it in the winter.
I also still need the pre-facelift side trim. If anyone has good side trim, i'd love it if we could make a deal. It dosnt matter if they're faded, but as long as they're straight. I found some front fender tirm, but they are not straight..

Anyway, my ambitious goal of mid-november is obviously not possible, but im hoping to be able to get everything done by June. The priority will be the mechanical things like CV joints, and engine mounts, and then if i can afford it, the body will be re painted.
Any help you guys can give, in the form of body parts, would be greatly appreciated.

Got some pics i need some input on guys!

I took off my front bumper and front right fender to take a gander at the damages that are keeping my bumper crooked. After i took the pics, i tried putting my 86-87 front bumper on, and it dosnt fit? I know tons of people who have dont bumper swaps..it gets caught on the cooling line infront of the rad, and on the metal coming down from the hood release..
Anyway, pics. What do you guys see that isnt right? ive never taken a front end appart..

You're doing quite the restoration. As for the bumper, how far away is it from fitting? Is it the kind of thing you can simply beat on a few things with a sledge and make it work? Also, aren't the brackets for the pre-facelift bumper different?

Ayeobe
06-13-2013, 09:18 PM
The front end seems to be a diffrent shape than the bumper, so i guess a sledge hammer might work, but i plan to pull it in a proper manner.. If i bolt the driver's side down, the passenger side dosnt reach the mount. The cooling line, is that power steering or transmission? It's too far out on the passenger side where the loop sticks out, and the metal that goes down infront of the center of the rad is in the way aswell.. So im guessing the bumper mount is pushed back, cos the bumper is straight.

Dr_Snooz
06-14-2013, 09:23 PM
I just checked Majestic and it looks like the brackets are the same. Are you sure your bumper isn't bent?

The cooling line is PS and should move around without too much trouble. The hood latch support is completely negotiable too. ;)

Ayeobe
06-15-2013, 06:08 PM
My "new" bumper came off of a straight car, my old one is bent. I had to put the old one back on, cos the new one dosnt fit. To me, that spells out "Frame damage".. Its just so minute i have to pull it off again to really take a look.. Not sure if i wana pull the fender again, or if ill just do the headlight...
Woe is me. Clean-ass 3gee, but itd be easyer to just replace rusted fenders than pull the frame straight...

Dr_Snooz
06-16-2013, 07:14 PM
If the car runs fine and doesn't pull, shimmy, vibrate, shred tires, etc., then I'd doubt there's frame damage. I'd be looking more at damaged brackets.

Ayeobe
06-17-2013, 05:03 PM
Damaged brackets? I know the front right fender, headlight bucket, and bumper dont lign up right.. What do you think? i'd like to do something about it myself..

Ayeobe
06-18-2013, 07:25 PM
I have a photo showing the bumper against the hood release mount and the PS cooling line, but id have to take the bumper cover off the bumper to get a photo of how far the bumper frame is from the bumper mount.. i can put my finger between the two just barely though.

There was two at the local Salvage yard. A 1988 Sedan and a 1987 Sedan. Both had their front bumpers off. The 1986-87 (A Series) bumper bracket looked like I stuck out more (pushing the bumper forward) as the 1988-89 (B Series) Bracket looked like yours and mine (Pulling the bumper inward). This is the reason if I ever do swap outs between years (or Series) I always grab the entire bumper (Cover, Crossbar support, bumper to body mounting brackets, etc). I've been in the automotive industry doing all sorts of jobs from Shade Tree Mechanic to Professional and have worked on many what I call "Kissing Cousin" cars (Suzuki Swift/Geo Metro, Pontiac Vibe/Toyota Matrix, Toyota Corolla/Geo Prism, etc) one too many times.
