Anyone have a Cardone reman dizzy? My original one with 185k has an internal oil leak which cannot be fixed other than replacement. The car is a daily driver so I cannot afford to leave it alone and then have the dizzy die on me. My only options are a Cardone dizzy OR a new unit from Honda for $500 which is not exactly in my price range.

I have an extra one laying around if your interested. 40 shipped. It's off an 89 Lxi.

I need one from a carb. Was there a difference between the EFI and carb?

I have no clue. I'll do a little looking and see what I can come up with.

Is there a silver control box thing on the side of your dizzy?

Can you post a pic of yours and I'll be able to tell that way.

Do you have the TEC or the Hitachi? The internal oil seal is available for the TEC and isn't too bad to replace.

The EFI distributor has TDC and CYP sensors in the base and is longer than the carb TEC. It'll also have a extra mounting tab. Should work, though the vacuum and/or mechanical advance might function differently...

I have a Tec, which I have heard is weird for a carb. Link to the seal?

Yeah, which is the Tec.

Thanks. So what is involved in replacing this?

Removal of ignition reluctor, ignitor, ignition pickup, vacuum advance and plate, mechanical advance, key, bearing retainer, and distributor shaft (12 screws and an E-clip).

On EFI it's the key, 3 screws on the engine side, and another 4 for the CYP and TDC sensors.

Does the shaft have to be pressed out? Is there anything else that should be replaced while I am in there if I go the route of doing it myself.

I replaced the seal in my distributor shortly after buying the car (86 LX-i) It is a job you can do yourself if you are careful and I would say take pictures while disassembling or take notes so if something has to be assembled in a certain order you'll know. That was the case with the crank and cyl sensor triggers in mine.

I would strongly suggest you to replace the distributor bearing as well. The only problem is that it is a special size bearing (I'm talking on what I have seen in mine; shaft diameter is 12.5mm) I don't know if all the distributors use the same bearing but mine (remember, EFI engine) has a Nachi 6201/012NSL.
I'm getting one from BDI about 12 dollars plus shipping to replace mine -which I should have done when I disassembled it the first time...

Hope it helps.

Thanks for the info. So it looks like this is a job that could potentially take up to a week to fix. Thankfully I have a second car, just don't like dailying it because it takes premium + 70 mile commute to work a day= not fun.
