i have a brand new of bottle coolant here, but i noticed a sticker on it that says it's not recommended for alloy engines after 1984. why would this be? and what harm would it do to my engine if i did use it? it smells like a cafe / bakery

Don't use this. It will probably react with the aluminium head.

I would also be wary of it being that you can't tell what specific type of coolant it is. It's just asking for trouble.

I would say that it probably has a chemical in it that leads to the corrosion of aluminum in the long run.

if you don't know what it is I def would not put it in. pretty much any modern coolant is just fine for aluminum.

damn, oh well. i don't even know of any engines that don't have alloy parts in their cooling systems lol

Get rid of that thing ASAP; you don't want to make the mistake of using it and finding out what the warning is REALLY about.

Long ago I had a Hillman Avenger that the only aluminum it had was the water pump and its housing on the block that doubled as timing chain cover. Radiator was brass and copper... old, old times

so why is it only bad for alloy engines made after 1984?

They don't make them like they used to anymore?
