hey im new to this site, im out in nevada and i have an 87 honda accord lx.. soo i just bought a pioneer deck today and it will not power on, in my friend's car we hooked up just the yellow and red wires with the antenna as the ground and it powered on fine, in my car, it will not work at all.. i have a multimeter but i cant seem to figure it out it is giving me some really weird numbers.. let me know what ever info you may need and i can post pictures as well. thank you

ground it somewhere better first, if that doesn't work check your fuses (Radio and Cig lighter I think), or your wiring is messed up and now you will have to run new wire.

Did you buy one of those adapters that plug into the stock harness or did you just hack it up?

and if none of this works then the deck hates you, or it gave out after you took it out of your friends car. Oh and check the fuse on the deck as well if there is one

ok, ill try grounding it, can I use speaker wire to extend the ground cable from the deck? I have checked my fuses but I only seem to have one accessory fuse marked stereo, however i have pulled that one out and tested it. We have suspected that the yellow wire is shorted but we cant figure out how to use the multi meter, how hard would it be to run new wiring?

and i bought the adaptor so i figured everything would work fine

if you got the adapter nvm about the wiring. To check the wire to see if it has power set it to DC power and 10v or something put the red to the yellow and black to a ground and see if the meter does anything

Moving to audio.

What type of connections were used to build the adapter harness? Crimp terminals or did you solder it? In any event, check the continuity from one side of the adapter harness to the other as well as check for voltage.

I am guessing it's the one from the store that plugs into the factory harness changing the wire colors to the standard color for aftermarket decks

yea it is the harness that Ju is talking about, from walmart. ill go take pictures of the meter reading and the wiring

I've used those harness ends extensively. You use both the harness end you buy at the store and the harness that comes with your headunit to build an adapter harness.

Yea thats what i did, when i bought the car it had a crappy aftermarket deck hooked up and it worked so all the wiring was there i just had to change the crimp connectors crimped to the new decks harness. im uploading pics now and ill show what may be a problem.

check the fuse box under the hood too, I think it is number 12 or 13 that supplies constant power to the memory power circuit

If these pics are too confusing i can shoot a video describing everything, however i will do the best i can.

for all of the connections we used crimp connectors and we ensured that they were contacting.

For some reason just holding the voltmeter in the air gives this number and it increases by like .01 every few seconds, it just keeps increasing.. am I using the correct settings?

a better view of the settings.

this is the harness that comes from walmart. it worked with the crappy deck.

This is the harness that plugs into the deck, came with it.

this picture shows the black wire coming from the deck harness hooked in the back to a ground, just so you know what the black wire is.

This is the harness that is hooked into the car, now the problem. after using the clips many times the whiteandyellow cord came out of the plastic adaptor so we just clipped the metal piece off and stripped it and connected it directly to the walmart harness yellow wire. it should do the same thing. since then i just clipped it off as shown in the picture.

When i hook the voltmeter directly to the yellowandwhite wire it doesnt change the number, with the ignition on or off. the red wire doesnt change it either, however i know for a fact that the red wire gives 12 volts with the ignition on because i hooked this cheapo little p.a. system up to it and it powered it fine. but the yellow wire didnt seem to power the p.a. either

ok i checked those as well and they seem to check out, i dont really have like accessory fuses it doesnt appear.. here are pics of the fuse diagrams.
i tested the fuses with a little fuse checker and they are fine. are there any i may need to check?

here is the one under the hood.

yeah try sticking one probe in your mouth and the hold one in your hand... yes we humans generate low voltage!
Again, sounds like your outside fuse is popped. Radio power has two circuits one constant, other switched. One fuse is under the dash, the other is under the hood.

check both sides of fuse with DVM

ok those are the diagrams, i can check the fuses you think may be faulty

13 under dash and 11 under hood.

And you REALLY need to get a solid wire connection. Twisting won't work. If it does, it won't stay working.

Also, ground out through the harness, not anywhere else.

ok, i dont twist though i use crimp connections, i took them all off though, i will go test them really fast
