I'm doing this on the civic, but this can be applied to the three G also, since I'm tryig to repair the civic, and it doesn't have a real filter, I'm adding a spin on filter, after what i've gone through with this car, I would recomend this on any auto. I'm using a Fram racing kit HPK2, which would normally take a fram ph8a, I don't put Fram on anything, and the ph8a was way too big anyway, after testing a bunch of filters, I found that an STP S3614 has the proper center threads, and the base gasket lines up perfectly. It's much smaller and is fine for an auto transmission. most remote filter kits are designed for the PH8A and will fit the smaller filter.

First step was to remove the huge and pretty much worthless air resonator box, it does nothing but muffle some intake noise. I'll be working on the intake pipe later. to make the pattern, first i cleaned the area it will go http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd158/lostforawhile/S4021560.jpg
masking tape to mark rough location of brackets, and two existing threaded holes,

Nice!

I planned to do this on the 3G with the addition of an external cooler. Would there be any issues with oil pressure?

bleeding that thing out may be a PITA, I had one on a pickup years ago and it would seem to loose fluid out of the pan but it wasnt leaking out anywhere!

I wouldnt add anything that would promote much foaming either, I hope it works out for ya

Genius! I kept meaning to put an inline filter in the 3g but I just did the MT swap instead. Now I'm meaning to put an inline filter on the PS system. Wish me luck.

I doubt it, it's pretty close to where the lines are to the cooler, the transmission has an internal pump, it's already pressurized when it goes to the cooler.

It is a great idea, it should trap more impurities than the mesh filter... For what I have seen in catalogs, the filter in the 3G auto trans is kind of pathetic

Rockauto lists it for about 20 bucks.

Get a trans cooler and install it; well you probably have some good idea of what to do.

If you fear restriction just install a larger filter; you can cross-reference the fram and get a purolator, napa or wix filter instead...

I wanted a smaller filter, plenty of capacity for a transmission filter, but not with the huge can, the fram PHA8 will cross reference to a lot of filters, thats the standard size most adapters use. I haven't been able to install it yet, it's rained nearly every day
