I have these 6.5 inch speakers that i would like to install in my front doors. I have taken out the old speakers and cut out the basket. But the 6.5's still won't fit into the basket... Its like my baskets arent even made for 6.5 speakers... I don't know what to do..

I've searched countless times with no help and am very frustrated...can anyone help me? :banghead::banghead:

Even with the basket gone and just a huge hole. The 6.5 speaker mounting holes are wider than the speaker hole itself!?

I had 6.5's in the front and it fit.. The only problem is only like 2 screws will be holding the speaker to the door instead of like 4 or 5 screws..

The front are 5 1/4 anyway, not 6.5 so the basket isn't meant for 6.5's.. Either cut more or get smaller speakers.

So are you going from speaker to factory bracket to car.

I dunno, all I know is I broke the plastic bucket alot, set in some 6.5's, put in a screw on the top and bottom in the factory screw holes, and it was fine.

Maybe you have weird 6.5's?

I measured them. They were 6.5's. Is there anywhere I can get new brackets?

I meant the depth of them.. You shouldn't need new brackets just bust out the back of the bucket so the magnet on the speaker will fit through, and align the speaker screw holes with the car door speaker screw holes, and try to get like 2 screws in..

The speaker wont even touch the bracket... It's that wide.

Or you maybe you bought the wrong 6.5 speakers for FRONT doors lol I have 6.5 pioneers with the basket. You would have to get the flat 6.5 speakers meant for front doors.

Its always better to know what you buying and where from and don't be afraid to ask the seller or else you will be unhappy with the results...

Interesting. Not even one screw will align with a screw hole on the door?

To save yourself trouble I'd just get 5 1/4's, they are meant for the door anyway. 6.5's are the rear speakers.

these were given to me for free. So. yeah. I don't think they are shallow mount if thats what your saying. They don't even fit in the rear brackets..

Just realize you have a hatch maybe that's why you can't put 6.5 in the front??

I have 5's in my coupe now, but I used to have 6.5's. I had plastic rings between the speakers and basket so they'd fit. They were going to cut the basket, but the Kickers were so big that they'd block the window.

I measured my stock speakers and they are 6.25".... I have already cut the basket, but if i keep cutting away to make the speaker flush against the stock bracket. It wont be raised anymore....ughhhhh

I too am having this same problem. I put Sony Exploads 1640s in the grey accord. I bought some Polks for the White accord that don't fit, I have just sent back some Rockford fosgates that were suppose to fit as well. Even without the adaptor basket most speakers will need modification.

The Sony Exploads fit with little to no modification.

mounting speakers in these cars is a bitch most of the time, it takes some fabricating

I'm thinking about getting a half inch spacer and then gluing the spacer to the bracket and then screwing the speaker into the spacer.

the fronts are 6.5 but not all 6.5 are created equally lol if the basket on the speaker is just a lil larger it wont fit right

I got some decent kenwoods that fit like oem, got them out of a 95 civic fronts in JY so yes there are some replacement speakers out there but not many that fit without bloodshed...

This sounds crazy but... I have a logitech x-540 5.1 surround sound speakers for my computer and they sound amazing.

Link here. http://www.logitech.com/en-us/speakers-audio/home-pc-speakers/devices/234

Is there anyway i could power those in my car? Until i get a real speakers?

Would a power inverter be good?

i would cover the stock plate up with fabric or leather to match the interior then just use the trim rings that the speakers comes with if it came with any

keep plain jane covers if anything change the fabric, unless you like your stuff getting stolen? lol

You need to build baffles out of MDF so that the speaker sit in further and you can still mount the factory speaker covers.

I have had to do this for all 3 sets of speakers I have had in the front of my Accord, and recently had to do it for my civic as well. Can post pics if needed... diymobileaudio.com is good source for info on how to do this type of work as well.

Stole this from google images search, but this should give you an idea... Instead of the factory plastic speaker basket, remove that, and cut out piece of MDF. Can be made different thickness to make sure you clear grille. Just make sure to roll your window down and check for clearance on magnet side too.

Alright thanks. Also, Do i have to break in my speakers? And if i do, How should i do that?

Hash_man_Se_i

Breaking in speakers is always a good idea. Depending on the speaker, some will have a longer break in time then others. Best bet is to play music with a good variety of notes, some good midbass, some highs, etc. And play it at a moderate volume for a while.

Some speakers like my old ones took over 20 hours of listening to break in, others take much less, and you will generally notice a change in sound when this happens.

Ok thanks. Another question (hopefully my last) Does anyone know the thread size of the screws used to put on the speaker cover. I was hoping i could get some longer ones from lowes or walmart?
