what causes the belts to squeek ? there is a 3g im lookin at up the street from me ..its an 89 5spd with 150k for 1200 ...its in really good shape ...outside and in...i started it up today and the belts squeek like crazy...eventually they stopped ...but does it mean they need to be replaced ?

are u sure its not the water pump? cuz it can make a sound like a squeaky belt too.

Make sure the belts are not on too tight.

if they squeek there probably loose or there old and glazed...'

push on them in the mid most point of the belt...there should be only a inch of slack in both directions...even less..also check for any visual problems...like craks

yeah...i forgot...it squeeks when it's too loose

mine makes alot of noise but i'm pretty sure it is the belt, the pump water works fine

ok trhanks guys ...i looked at the belts and they looked like they were kinda loose

mine squeeks like hell and i finaly figured out why......my battery light came on the other day and i didnt know why, well it turns out the bearings are going.....cause the alternator to bind up and making the belt squeek......but its nothin a little pb blaster every week cant fix!!!!!!!!!!!!
