I wanna swap out my stock carb for an aftermarket peice, but I have no clue where to start looking and what I'm looking for.

I just want it to be inexpensive and be done in a day or two.

I drive a 87 Accord LX 5spd.

Any links and part sites would be very helpful.

most people upgrade the carb with a weber 32/36 or a 38/38. those are the easiest to install and can be done in a few hours...
use the search bar to help with a lot of questions...

Would you suggest a weber conversion kit?

i used a weber 38/38 kit for a few years, ran great and never had a single problem with it. but i upgraded to dual weber 40 dcoe's, they are more complicated and cost a lot more $$$$.
however, if ya DO decide to do a weber swap, i have one for sale in the 3geez marketplace...

yeah 38/38 is the way to go if you want easy, and a decent power increase. 40 or 45 DCOE's like what Dave's running, or bike carbs like what I'm running are the way to go if you want the best performance. DCOE's are easier to set up, but bike carbs are way cheaper.

You could easily buy 5 sets of bike carbs before coming even close to equaling the cost of webers. I think I ended up spending $80 on the carbs, $20 on the manifold, $40 for the filters, and then a bunch of money in jets and misc odds and ends. Probably around 200 total for the whole setup. Again though. Not nearly as simple as setting up dual webers, and definitely way harder than a single 38/38.

If I try anything too serious, then I'm afraid I'll mess my whole engine up somehow... and trust me. With me, it's possible.

I'd probably go the 38/38 weber route then. If you buy Dave's it's all setup for our cars. Adapter plates, linkage, filter, and it's probably jetted pretty close as well.

I saw the thread, I wish I had the money but I don't have a dime right now. Even after my next paycheck, I'll be broke as hell.

Dave, you still have that carb for sale? If you do, maybe I could still take it off your hands, but it wouldn't be for like the next month...

yea i still have the carb, but i currently have 1 member is very interested. and if its not sold SOON, it wont be available for a few months cuz ill be out of the country...

Would this be good to get for my car?

It's the cheapest one I've found, but by only 20 bucks. I know I get what I pay for, but this looks pretty good.

Opinions?

That sounds about how much I paid for mine. Got mine from www.triangleautosupply.com

Their website sucks but if you call and ask about the K728 kit you should get a response.

I originally emailed redline weber about it and they forwarded me to triangleautosupply and they hooked me up.

Its a great swap. I recommend it as it makes your engine bay ALOT clearer, Sounds great, and returned my accord to perfect running condition.

I just need a bigger accel pump jet.

If you go with it, be careful when doing the adaptor plate bolts.. if you overtorque them they come out of the bottom of the plate and push into the manifold, which causes the adaptor plate to snap in half and make you wait 5 business days for a new one which costed 30 bucks. I know this from experience >_>

Will the weber conversion make it easier to do a forced induction?

turabaka
09-12-2010, 12:38 AM
easier yes. Although that isn't really saying much. Forced induction on carb'd cars is still a bitch. If you want to go turbo I'd suggest just sinking the money into an FI swap. It'll make going turbo way easier than trying to turbo a carb'd car. This coming from the guy that loves cars so much he has four of them now.

ps: I'll post it in the racing section once I have the official results, but I won my class today yet again. Closest car was about 1.5 seconds behind me. Took fastest fwd of the day in raw as well.

If not forced induction, how hard would a nitrous setup be?

I'm looking for ways to put in horsepower.

definatly the way to go if you want forced ind. on a carb car... has to be steath and sneaky pete though since it is illegal in lot of places to have a bottle on the street.

Fack the police!:rocket:

What would be a site or shop I could look at for a nos system that fits a weber?

hmmm, just search the terms...
nothing to much different than any other old school style set up. Ya dont wanna go lean when its on so a timing retard contr is a good idea. Either using an MSD ign box or go with EDIS MJ conversions.
Plumbing is more done by experience and common sense, google sneaky pete and follow the yellow brick road.:rice:

I saw paint the rims red with a black lip, or black with a red lip. No hubcaps

I totally agree! No hubcaps for sure.

Good idea on the paint. Might even do like a half black and half red type paint job. Black/Red my favorite colors.
