Today I put the B20A on a nice roadtrip from Colorado Springs to Denver which is about an hour drive. The B20A was driving nicely pulling real hard. On the way back Im noticing while Im driving that the car wont go into certain gears. So I pull over off the freeway to make sure it wasn't me not shifting right. Sure nuff tranny wouldn't go into any gears except 2nd. I noticed that the shifter feels very very loose as well. Another thing is after I take off in 2nd gear the car goes up to 75mph while in 2nd gear. I'm thinking to myself something aint right here. Mind you I have this cheap Autozone clutch in the car. Next I smell this smoky burning smell coming from underneath the car. Im thinking to myself Lord please don't let it be my tranny. So what do you guys think? Clutch or tranny?

what revs where you doing when it done 75mph in 2nd gear?

my guess is that the one of the shift linkage bolts came loose, and what you thought was 2nd gear was actually 4th gear, and that the burning smell was the clutch slipping from taking off in 4th gear

That sounds like a possibility Matt...Hopefully thats the case. The shifter definatley felt loose like the linkage might have came apart. I was just doing normal revving

well that definitely sounds like 4th gear then, cause in 2nd at 75mph, you would be doing about 8000-9000rpm lol. just check all your shift linkage and stuff. i once had mine (home made short shifter) come loose once, and it was doing something similar to what happened to you

yep sounds like a shifter issue! happened to my step dads old trecell station wagon about 60 miles away from home he had to drive in 2nd all the way home and thought it was the trans they put it on stands found out the shifter bolt fell out!

check your trans oil and clutch adjustment

Trans oil was full....clutch felt normal. But I will double check the clutch cable to make sure it is tight

ive had one of the shifter linkages come off before and only have 3rd and 4th gear. i believe its the stabilised rod that might be at failt
