Good work, I like the tuck. I was thinking of doing the same thing.

Don't you think if a fuse blows that you might just want to leave the cover off though? As long as feet don't stomp it I can see it being a bitch to access!

Nah it looks tight from the angle of the pics but theres a good 4 inches or more between the front cover and the back of the dash. Plenty or room to remove it, I made sure of it before i bolted it into place. The great thing is if you slightly bend the stock fuseblock bracket you can use two of the exhisting holes that the ac condenser box used.

Heres a few more pics....and one decent shot. This is how I did my drivers side wire tuck. Shows you what two plugs to strip, pull and reroute.

88lxi-shortram
10-25-2010, 06:44 PM
its worth it though youll have a sick ass car thats reliable and youll be able to say you built it instead of just buying a swap motor. thats the path mine will be taking... now all i need is time for a job (not to mention the job to go along with it lol)

mushroom_toy
10-25-2010, 10:00 PM
^The problem then is that you wont have time to do anything when you have the job and money lol. Thats the problem I have,

just wondering what gauge wire you used for the tuck? im looking into doing it and ive had differetn answers from16 to 22 gauge. i was thinking 18 since i have it handy but im willing to go out and buy the right stuff to get a good quality tuck.

you shouldn't really have to cut anything. i haven't so far. just leave it factory.

ok so on the drivers side where would i run the wires through? and ill post pics tomoro of my fuse box but idk what happened to the connectors but they seems all melted orlike theyve had somekind of grease on them that causd them to have a gooey feel to the connectors.lol its like trying to undo connectors made of playdo

On the drivers side you just undo the harness wrap and reroute the harness and rewrap it.

That goo is old dialectric grease, used to keep water and corrosion from getting on the terminals. you can leave it. :)

On passenger side if you have efi you should have to cut and extend 5 wires and one main power wire. Not super sure about carbed.

88lxi-shortram
11-08-2010, 07:03 AM
im EFI but what 5 wires to cut lol... and where do you reroute the driverswires?through the hole towards the top of the fender to the windshield or somewhere else? sorry for all the questions this is my first tuck and since the motor is out i have lots of room and work opportunities to get this done and get a grade for it
