looking at buying '89 2.0 EXi... what to look for

Hi all

I used to be here years ago when I had an 87 aerodeck, well the feeling never left me how much I liked it, so here I am looking again at an '89 2.0 Exi - from the pics it looks like an FI engine, and it has cruise control.

What I'd like a quick heads up on is what things should I look for before handing over the cash, the mechanical ones that are dealbreakers. Any minor stuff I can muddle through with all your expert help ofc! I'll check the vin numbers and such as well.

I'm not very mechanically minded, so laymens terms would be helpful, plus any instructions as to where to look for such things, if they are not obvious.

Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated. :)

from the pics it looks like an FI engine, and it has cruise control.

The -i in EX-i denotes fuel-injection.

Check the top side of the brush guard under the front bumper/engine. If there's a layer of oil, there's a leak. Also check exhaust loudness for a leak. Also check where the injectors are for fuel leaks from bad o-rings (silver part below will be gold from leak).
