Just some pics now. I will up date with the specs and details later.

The pistons. Custom made diamond pistons. The tops of the pistons are ceramic coated and the sides are moly coated.

The block. Bored to 3.285 in / 83.439 mm
http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n117/ericrw165/Motor%20rebuild%201/th_100_2609.jpg (http://s110.photobucket.com/albums/n117/ericrw165/Motor%20rebuild%201/?action=view&current=100_2609.jpg)

The Pistons, rods, and crank installed. The rods are eagle H beams.

The only snag i ran into. I had a rod bolt that never reached the proper torque of 28 ft-lbs and ended up looking like this. Called arp for a replacement and they said that they had some problems with these bolts on the eagle rods a few years ago. I've had the rods sitting for a couple of years. The one replacement bolt was $8.

Well i got the water and oil pumps installed. I'm debating if i want to install the crank scraper that I have. It will need to be trimmed to fit. I'm going to try to get some pics tomorrow if i get to work on it. I have to diagnose an electrical issue with my wifes truck first.

If the rod bolts are known to be faulty why dont you replace them all?

All of the rest torqued fine. If any of the rest would have a problem it would have showed when i was torquing them down.

EricW
04-15-2012, 07:14 PM
Well since I started it I've bought a house and had children, but it is still in progress. I need to trim the crank scraper to fit the rods and that will pretty much finish the bottom end. When I get my garage cleaned up a little so I have room to work i'll get it finished.

A little update.

I'm still working on the motor, slowly. The crank scraper is in and i've just got to put the oil pan on to finish the bottom end. I've got the old motor pulled out of the car. I pulled the ARP head studs out of the old motor and put them on the new motor. I need to check the ported and polished head and get the cam that i got from JohnnyO ready to go in. Then the motor will be done. I'll try and get some pictures before i button everything up.

Get any work done

EricW
05-03-2013, 08:14 AM
Haven't done any work on the motor. But I did finally get around to getting the ported and polished heads from my parents garage and dug out the cam that i got from JohnnyO out of my tool box. I just need to decide which head i want to run the decked one i got from JohnnyO or the one that hasn't been decked. When i had the pistons made I used the average of the volume of the two ported and polished heads to calculate my compression ratio at 9.3 to 1. So if i run the decked head the compression ratio will be higher and with the other head the compression ratio will be lower.

I don't know the specs on the cam that i got from JohnnyO. I do know it is a web cam and it obviously has quite a bit more lift.

Got a some more work done. I finished lapping the valves and installed the new valve seals and the bisi moto valve springs. That was all done last week. Tonight I installed the front and rear main seals. Then copper gasket sprayed the head gasket and installed the head. Then I chased all of the threads with a tap.

Got a little more done tonight. Put the stock flywheel on to set the bottom end at TDC. Then installed the timing belt.
http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/05/29/hysyve3y.jpg

I bought a light weight flywheel years ago and never installed it. After inspecting it I noticed there was no timing marks in it so I had to installit on the motor with it still at TDC and mark it with a chisel.

My last flywheel was like that. Took me about a day of head scratching to figure out what to do about it.

Yeah first I thought about trying to line it up with the stock one but it was pretty far apart by the time they are stacked together. So I stacked them and lined them up using sharpies through the bolt holes(only thing I had multiples of that fit the holes well). I then used a thin line sharpie to mark the approximate locations of the timing marks. After that I put the flywheel on the motor (already at TDC) and my marks were about 1/16th off.

I would prefer to run one of the better b-series intakes but I just can't justify the money for one right now. The car hasn't been running for 5+ years now and I need to get it running again instead of on jack stands in my driveway. Bro, you've spent so much time and money building up your dream motor, and you're going to trust it all to that junk filter? When you wonder why it takes so long to get oil pressure at startup, change that filter out for a Wix. Trust me, you haven't saved yourself any money.

I remember reading back in the day on the endyn site about having too much mass connected to the oil port, supposedly it will cause fatigue and the fitting will eventually break off. You might be able to get away with that on a V8 or inline 6, but I wouldn't risk it on a 4cyl, too much vibration.

I have a hose clamp supporting the pressure sensor holding it to the water pipe. I ran it like that for several thousand miles before I started rebuilding the motor. But i will look for something to remedy the issue before it becomes a problem.

You could do a braided steel line to an "oil manifold", or use a sandwich adapter with multiple oil pressure ports, like the Golden Eagle vtec conversion kit I used on my b18a1. I always run mechanical oil pressure gauges. Maybe I'm just weird that way, but at least that does eliminate that huge ridiculous looking cylindrical thing.

I was thinking about those same two things. When I get some time ill have to look and see which one will be the easiest to install and keep hidden.

Can someone who has drilled out the oil passage for 5th gear shed a little light on this for me. I've searched the forum but couldn't find anything that had a difinitave answer. Here is my case now. I only assume its supposed to be one of the two spots im pointing out.

No, it's on the mainshaft. You're looking for a little teeny pin-sized hole on the mainshaft just where fifth gear sits. It's barely big enough and pretty much useless when oil levels are low. The shaft is hardened steel so I'm not sure how you'll drill it. Maybe someone else can weigh in on that.

I'm going to be running a sc60, the turbo is rated to 600hp. My numbers will be limited right now to the 3 hundreds because of my injectors but i will probably go bigger once the car is up and running.

I recommend using studs with spacers, the thicker the spacer, the better. A bolt is just a spring. With thermal expansion of the flange, a short bolt is loaded with much more force, and with thermal contraction, loses much more clamping force on the flange, vs a longer one. Longer studs with spacers are much better at not loosening, blowing gaskets, or being pulled out of the head.

Edit: I guess those studs linked are described as for the intake, obviously I am referring to the exhaust, esp turbo manifolds, but they might work fine for that too, being stainless and all.

If you would have mentioned these while the motor was out of the car I would have bought some. Im more concerned with getting the car running right now. Im also not looking forward to the back pain I seem to remember from removing the intake while the engine is in the car.

They would be better than the stock ones side I only have a thread or two hanging out of the bolts on most of them.

I've been researching radiator replacements since the connection on top of the radiator is directly in front if the manifold. Im debating if I want to go with the 90-93 Integra or the 94-00 Integra radiator. Others have used the 90-93 with modifications on the mounts. I've been thinking about using the 94-00 though since the top outlet is further to the passenger side than the 90-93 and it only about 1" wider than the stock accord radiator.

the main issue is the filler neck isn't offset, and the radiator top brace will hit, you can buy filler necks already fabricated, it would just have to tigged to the side tank, and a plate tigged over where the existing one goes, the rest is pretty easy, cut some lower brackets off about any civic at the yard, and weld them to the front cross member area for the bottom mounts

PortugalFocus
01-02-2015, 07:47 AM
Even if the filler neck isn't offset and interferes with the rad support why not notch the rad support and reinforce around it?

obd0driver
01-02-2015, 08:18 AM
You want to know how to get around it. Make them -an fittings. Just have someone weld 4 an nuts of you choosing to the top and bottom of locations on each on the hose ends boom custom line that you can run any way you would like. Should cost less the $70 bucks for everything

Keep an eye for the temp sensor on the rad. I had to notch out my front subframe a bit because it comes straight out at a 90 degree unlike the stock one which is angled up a bit to clear.
