Hello Guys,

my name is Max, i am from germany and now i am owner of an 89 Accord Aerodeck. The Accord at first, had an A20A1 Engine which was swapped by A20A3 sohc 12V EFI Motor with 85 or 75 Kw, i dont know exactly. Now i want to swap again but not with A20 block. I have the chance to get a B20A8 dohc 16V Motor in good condition and i want to know if this is possible without many or expensive modifications. Does anybody know?

I hope my english is ok:-)

Thanks and greetz

Welcome :)

As long as you get the ECU, gearbox and axles with the B20A8 there shouldn't be anything to it other than just dropping the new engine in.

Thank you.

With Axles you mean the parts from motor to wheels right? are they stronger or?
ok and the gearbox? is it part directly connected to the engine? i have here some pictures of the block:

i am not an mechanican, i will only buy, the intake will be done by my mechanican:-)

edit: i need 5 posts to show you the pics, i will upload later:-)

The axle is this part:

The transmission is the gear box.

Yes, B20a2 or B20a8 is a direct fit. You can use two passenger side axles from A20a, because they are the same.
And I believe the Aerodeck were only A20a4 option in Europe. A20a3 was US option with EGR and Cat. Early A20a4 before 88 was non Cat.

And Welcome here..

You'd still need the half-shaft from the B20A tho, right?

I'm pretty certain some parts of Europe had the A20A3 too, all depends on the local emission laws. In Finland we never got any 3Gs with emission components (my B20A8 is from Switzerland), I think the cat requirement came sometime 89 or 90 here. But in other parts of Europe they came earlier.

yes in general Europe went for the emission control in 87. thus all cars after 87 sud be equipped with cat. I'm lucky, my car is a import to, from Belgium. because of that there literally no info on my car in Vehicle Registration Paper. Meaning I can do allot wit it. and its a 87, so no cat.

Hmm you said only B20a2 and B20a8 are direct fit... Thought all B20a engines were the same from the outside. So how about JDM B20a ??

The jdm b20a is the same too, the only significant difference being the ignition stuff and ecu. The jdm one has electronic ignition advance while edm models are vacuum advance.

The b20's that will not fit are the ones out of 88-91 preludes.

Right. Thanks for the info.. :)

And the lude B20s don't fit because of the angle right??

Correct.

Thanks for information.
Are there other possible motorblocks for example F20 or Heads like Z3 (because i can get an B20Z3) or is it to much?

Anybody know which axles are also possible? Maybe Civic or Prelude BA4?
