Hello 3GEEZ!!!

I was driving around earlier this morning when I pressed the brake while coming to a red light. While I was braking, there was some hard grinding that just suddenly came out of nowhere, and a high-pitch noise too. It seems to come from the driver-side wheel, and it does this hard grinding every time I stop, making the entire car shake and rattle. When its time to hit the accelerator, the lxi acts as though its in P, even though I have it in D (when I press the gas it shifts into gear on its own and then drives normal).

Could it be the brakes on that wheel or something else?

Sounds like something has gone awry with your brakes. You'll have to get out there and inspect the car to know for sure. It will probably be more than obvious the moment you get the wheel off.

where is the wear indicator located on these brakes?

I just removed the caliper on that wheel and noticed that it was being held on by only ONE mounting bolt (the two big bolts that mount the caliper on the rotor). It must have came out today while I was driving, would that be the problem?
