As it was suggested earlier that we sud have a meet for once, all of us from all corners of Europe.

My first bet is to meet in the middle, in Germany. Nurburgring and some autobahn action Mm?

Take a good HD camera, few maybe, and mirror reflex camera to document it all. thats my thoughts.

Feel free to suggest ideas, locations etc.

Nürburgring is a great idea, was thinking of that too!
Even though I won't be on the Ring for more than one lap, since my car isn't prepared to race,
but it's just a great location with the hills on the way to it (and on it ;)).

thats good anough, just to take a few shots.

Nürburgring sounds cool. Looked it up, would be a 2200km drive.

Would need to make it a summer vacation trip with the family, or find someone to take care of the kids for a week so just me and the wife could go.

If we were to go with the kids I'd probably have to make it something like a two week camping trip through Europe. Which doesn't spund like too bad of a plan, the mrs. tends to be less enthusiastic about my ideas tho ;).

you will have more fun with out kids, and would be able to relax more along with your girl. and would be easier for you.

for me its 1500km to drive there, we could hook up somewhere in sweden and drive together. maybe :)

bryan6732
10-29-2010, 08:21 AM
For me it's only 164 km, since I live only 30 km from the most southern point of the Netherlands. Only an hour and a half to get there!

Of course there are a lot of possibilities there to sleep. I prefer camping, but there are also hotels there. On the "Camping Am Nürburgring" a stay for the night with a car, a tent and two adults costs 26 euros (including shower/electricity and hot water). And then your tent is almost ON the track I guess, so it will be much cheaper if you take a campingsite about 10 km further away from the track.

Just tossing a few ideas though ;)

Yeah, that would be a possibility, and you're right. It would be way easier to go without the kids.

I think the best way for me would be to first drive down to Turku, take the ferry over to Stockholm and drive down from there.

My other options are:

Take the ferry from here over to Umeå and drive down from there. The ferry ride would be a lot quicker, but more driving.
Drive to Turku or Helsinki and take a ferry to Rostock, and drive from there. Probably the most comfortable option, but also likely the most expensive.
Drive to Helsinki, take the ferry to Tallin and drive through the Baltics.

So I'm looking at around 400€ in gas for the trip and I guess anywhere from 200€ to 800€ in ferry fares (the prices fluctuate alot). Plus tolls/ferrys between Sweden and Denmark. I better start saving up.

Man you guys suck...:crying:

Nurburgring? So...I only live 60 KM from Infineon Raceway and 180 KM to Laguna Seca Raceway. You can keep your umlaut and fancy pants German race track.

I guess the closest I'll come to racing with you guys is when GT5 comes out, whenever that is? :(

Seriously though, have an awesome European meet up and take lots of photos, so we can all see some EDM Accord badness!!! :D:D:D

Are yo going to do the Gleichmäßigkeitsprüfung on the Nordschleife?

I got the insurance info here: http://www.leeds-solicitors.com/nurburgring_insurance.html

As far as I know only people who live in Germany can do the Gleichmäßigkeitsprüfung, in a car with German license plates!

I don't know much about the insurance on track, but I've heard from many people that for your first time you just gotta stay at the right side of the track, since all locals will be twice as fast as you with their BMW E30, VW Golf and Opel Kadett :D

You need one of those James Bond style triple rotating license plates that goes from Dutch to German and then to UK. Multinational racing...

Yes I'm up to the challenge, for the fastest lap! I was just thinking on my way home from work, maybe I sud take a spare set of brake pads with me :D

And I agree with Naf's, better start saving now. 9 month to the next summer.

Yeah that's third on my wishlist (after beercan holders and hover conversion kit ;))..

And I guess I won't really have a chance in the race for the fastest lap with those two DOHC 16v dudes from the North.

I don't think hp will play too big of a role, I'm sure it would come down to who's the best driver.

What are your thoughts on the date? I was thinking sometime in July.

Tomisimo
10-30-2010, 03:06 AM
I agree! I\m not considering me as a race driver but sure can put down a fight.

July sounds good for me, was thinking the same here, because I was going to the Gatebil gathering in June first, get my car tested on a track first. So this means that we have 9 months exactly.. huh.. lots to do :flash:

bryan6732
10-30-2010, 07:09 AM
What will also play a role is how far do you want and dare to push your car, and how much risk you will take in corners.. You'll never hear me say that I won't give it a try, but we all still have to drive these cars home.. ;)

Last two week-ends of July I'll be able to come. The weeks before I've got exams, so that won't be an option.

Nafs Asdf
10-30-2010, 07:51 AM
True that, wouldn't be very wise to push the car too hard.

What are the possibilities for hiring an instructor or guide first to get acquainted with the track a bit before going at it on your own, as I've never done any racing either (unless you count a summer of go-karting as a kid) I'm sure it would help to get a bit of info on it first.

Last two weekends would be the 23-24th or 30-31st. I'll probably have my vacation from work most of July so I'm ok with both.

I'm thinking we should make the meet at least a two day event since I'll need about 2 days of travel time both ways and after 2000 km of driving I wouldn't mind spending some time out of the car too when we get there.

Ideas for out-of-car activities?

Also we should make a list of people attending so we know where we're at. Tom, could you maybe update the first post with that? And if it's unclear, I'm in ;)

Well, there's a tour bus around the Nordschleife and BMW Ring-taxi (which costs 195 euro per lap). But I'm not sure about hiring a co-driver for a lap. What I've also heard from people who've driven like 20 laps there in total, they still don't know the track!! Maybe some kind of navigation system has the total track on it? :D

I've been looking up some information, and these are the prices for driving:
1 round: € 22,-
4 rounds: € 75,-
8 rounds: € 145,-
15 rounds: € 250,-
25 rounds: € 390,-
Annual ticket: € 1.075,-

There's also a go-karting course, a casino, some kind of racing museum I guess (it's all on the official Nürburgring website). But that's all something about cars (even the casino has a car-related design :D), haven't been looking for some non-car things to do.

At least in the 23-24th July weekend there's no racing event in the Nordschleife-schedule, so there won't be a problem for some tourist driving I guess.. :)

Isn't there a possibility to send an invitation through PM or e-mail to all European members? Cause you can't be sure anyone reads this thread I guess. Also looking at the fact that only four European members (+phrenology ;)) have posted in this thread. Otherwise it would be just waiting for anyone to see this thread and posts whether they come or not...

Nafs Asdf

Don't think there's any easy way of getting to all euro members at once.

We need a splashier thread title, something like "Epic Euro meet, Nürburgring July 2011"

Hahaha, sure I'll change it :)

In drinking beers?
I tell you this, i'm a madman when it comes to speed.
But they don't call the ring 'the green hell' for nothing.
Over 20 km, 154 turns, a lot of them up or down hill, with no vizual arround the corner. I would never go for the max on unkown track.
Like going fast, my current topspeed is at 270 km/h (CBR) and i did hold it for 10 min. then i ran out of speedlimit free autobahn.:banghead:
My problem with going faster, i have nothing that does.

I'm all for making it a longer event, but I also realize that many will probably not be able to make it for more than the weekend.

Are you thinking of staying the whole week, or arrive sometime mid-week? Personally I'd like to make it as long as possible, but I doubt I could do much more than a week total with needing to arrange someone to take care of the kids and all while I'm away.

Here (http://www.nurburgring.org.uk/where_to_stay.html)'s a good site with hotels and guesthouses around the ring (also has a load of other good info), camping is probably the cheapest but those guesthouse prices don't look too bad either, seems like many of them offer some sort of guides/instructors and such. Camping prices don't seem like they want to be found.

I think we should decide on the date as soon as possible, will make planning a lot easier. So would the second last week in July be it? (18-24th)

bryan6732
10-31-2010, 01:11 AM
Of course I prefer to go as long as possible, but you should really have a broad schedule for what to do for all these days.

Guesthouse or hotel has the advantage that it's more confortable and you can drop all heavy stuff out of your car before driving the ring, but it's great to sit in front of your tent in the evening with a German beer and a campfire...

Nafs Asdf
10-31-2010, 01:37 AM
We could stay at a camp site a some days and at a guesthouse for another few if we want to do both. But I think we'll be needing someone who speaks german to get the info on camping and such.

I also saw there is a possibility to drive the GP course, 30€ for 20 mins or something like that. I think that one might be better than the Nordschleife if we want to do timed runs.

bryan6732
10-31-2010, 01:48 AM
I do speak German, but not so good as I speak Dutch. Hopefully some of the new German Aerodeck members will join us! :)

The F1 track is of course better to do timed runs, and you can really get to know the track after a few laps. But I'm not sure how many times they open the track for tourists. But I'd still want to do a lap of the Nordschleife as well, cause what I've heard it's a 20 km drive you'll never forget...

Edit: I checked the site for tourist driving at the GP track, and it looks like they are open for tourists a few days each week. It's not known for July 2011 yet, but I guess when we stay for (almost) a week there should at least be a few days we could drive there.

Nafs Asdf
10-31-2010, 02:24 AM
Yeah, of course I'd like to do both. From what I've been reading about it I think it might be wiser to do the Nordschleife without the pressure of timing the runs, so it would be cool to get the "racing" done on the GP track instead.

bryan6732
10-31-2010, 03:05 AM

True that...

Another idea: We could also make a tour through the Eiffel area, which is a very nice national park. Great to do a photo shoot! I'm sure there are defined routes to be found on the internet or maps to be bought in gas stations or shops.

Tomisimo
10-31-2010, 03:04 PM
Ouh yes definitely, I think that would be a good idea to do F1 time laps some, I would like to make a few good shots of the cars in action on both tracks.

About staying, I was thinking that actually, coming abit earlier in mid week and be there for the weekend and after this when everyone goes home I'm planing also to visit automotive museums on my own, was planing on a D-Tour to Munchen. Guess why :) if I will have enough money to do that I will. I want also make a treasure hunt, go to a local scrappy, just for kicks and maybe some gold to be found, you never know.

We can combine both camp for some bonding time and later motel or a guesthouse for relaxing before a long drive home at least for us northlings

Now I just got back from a Car Show I was at the whole day and I'm dead tired....

So the activities we've got till now:

- Timed runs on Nürburgring F1 track
- "Tourist driving" on Nürburgring Nordschleife
- Campfire, BBQ, drinking beer, talking
- Tour through the Eiffel national park with photoshoot
- Visiting a city? (Frankfurt/Düsseldorf/Köln are all within an hour and a half drive from the Ring)

With these ideas we've already got (at least) three days filled with activities.
So, if anyone has something to add to this...

I was actually looking at my options to do an engine swap before July, but that's just in the observation phase, and I don't even know if it will actually happen before that time.

I also still have to lower the rear of my car, but with the high density of school work I still haven't had any time to do it. That surely will be done in July!

I find few decent B20\s in sweden with manual trany.. its possible and easy swap :)

I'm planing on swappind to B20 this winter as well, got to start overhauling my broken cylinder head. Found a nice big garage to do it in now. waiting for funds.

Yeah here in The Netherlands there are very few B20s. Happened to see an Aerodeck with B20a1 in it for sale, but the car had been standing outside for over two years. Battery was broke so the engine also didn't run for a long time.

I might just ask a Dutch importer of Japanese engines how much I'd have to pay for a complete JDM B20a. That would be brilliant, but I guess it won't be cheap!
But on Ebay they are all in the US, and not willing to ship to Europe... With the cheap dollar nowadays, that wouldn't be that expensive.

If I had somewhere to work on it, I probably wouldn't think too long about it. But I'm not likely to get much done on it once it gets covered in snow sitting in the yard. It would be a pretty nice deal tho, might have to reconsider it.

As for my car, I've been saying I'll get it lower next summer for a couple years now... maybe if thegreatdane wants to sell me his front set of konis I can pick them up on the way and make it happen. :D

And then there's the JDM ecu/ignition swap I've been meaning to do, but I'm not feeling too confident about my abilities with the wireing. If I get that done tho, I'm pretty much only a conversion harness away from obd1.

I'd be interested in joining the meet, since I will be missing the US Meet in July cause my wife wants to vacation in Ireland for our anniversary. Only 2 problems I see.

1) From Ireland to Nürburgring is 1200km. GoogleMap figures it'll take 14 hours to drive. This problem might not be so bad if I take a couple extra days off.

2) I won't be in my 3gee.

But, to have the possibility to be the only American at the European meet, that might just make it worth it.

That'd be cool :)

It might actually be worth it to fly over instead of driving, I know it would be cheaper for me. And it would go a lot quicker.

Yeah, but with driving, my wife can say she saw more of Europe than "Just a cottage in a small Irish village". Mind you, she's never really been more than 200 miles from her home, either.

Put the B20 in the overhead compartment on the way home.

The wife likes the idea of driving across the European countryside and is all for the meet on 1 condition.

The meet can't interfere with Top Gear, provided I can manage to get studio audience tickets for Top Gear.

I told her we have to get a sporty rental. I'm not making a lap at Nürburgring....or driving on the Autobaun (which I plan on doing since I'll be in Germany) in some lame underpowered hatchback........If only I could find a place that had a 3gee to rent out, lol.

Anyways, even though there is no chance of me being there, it would be really cool to see this come together!

Hope we will pull it of!

1200km is less than 1400km for me to drive down there, so you better show up man :)
I'f you want to take a 3G with you, I bet it would be cheaper to buy one than rent a sporty car with unlimited mileage. Just tossing ideas.

Yeah, I could probably buy one.....but then I'd either have to sell it after driving it a couple days, or ship it the the US....which would cost more than I paid for the car, lol.

How cheap do they tend to cost in Europe, anyways?

Nafs Asdf

At the very cheapest you could probably get a running one for 200-300 € (my A16A was 230€), but it will probably not be that pretty. Of course that's up here in Finland, and I don't know how common these are in the UK.

Why not buy an Aerodeck and ship it to the US while you're at it? ;)

750 £ for this one.. looks clean to me :) only minus is auto.

Well if you've got some "spare" money (enough to buy a 3gee, your vacation and the shipment back to the US)
you might wanna consider to buy an Aerodeck, since it seems like a lot people in your country want one!
Maybe you could even make some money! :D

LOL, that's a coincidence! I ran into this one a few days ago and was really thinking about getting it!
If I had a proper place to store it and work on it I might've already bought it. It's only 150 km away from me...

wh1skea

My biggest hurdle will probably be storage until I can afford to ship the car. Definitely won't have the money to ship at that time. Wouldn't have the money until probably the following February. Another hurdle would be to find a seller willing to bring it to Heathrow Intl. If I'm buying a car while on vacation, don't want to rent one to go pick it up. Guess I have 8 months to get it figured out.

I would love to help you out, but all tho we live in europe, I can make my way to the Germany, but for me to go to UK would require a visa, that can be expensive and time consuming.

A visa for the UK? Why that? We just drive the car on train or boat and go there.

Don't want to be a killjoy, but don't think your allowed to drive a car you buy in Europe, don't know how it is in England, but in germany the licence plates remain with the owner, and not with the car. To get insurance is not possible.

Hei guys. I have bad news here. There is a big chance that I want make it this year, sorry, I really wanted to come but my car failed DOT inspection and I dont have think I can fix all of the faults untill this meet.
Mainly structural rust that need to be welded, and full susp. overhaul. Rust in the brake lines, those need to be bent and fited and my engine not as fresh as I would like it to be. Idk I need a miracke here to pull this all of if I would still make it. I can weld and do the rest but I dont have a welding machine nor a place to do it.
Anyway, this was a rough winter for me, I had hoped to fix my car but there was one thing after another for me.
