After getting a recent interest in Honda chassis codes, I got to looking at the VIN on my 86 hatchy and noticed something weird. The chassis code on my Accord is BA5....which I've come to know as a Prelude code. I was expecting it to be CA5. I even went as far to check the dash, firewall, and door sill. They all match. Any ideas, comments? What does your's say? For those that don't know where its at, its the 4th, 5th, and 6th numbers in your VIN.

I had a problem with an insuance company once, they insisted my car was a prelude and I must be mistaken in thinking it's an accord, the early cars have wierd numbers

BA comes up as 84-86 Accord also.

There's something I seriously don't understand: Did these cars ever come with automatic seat belts? I see articles everywhere saying they did.

Edit: I know the coupes and '87-'89 hatches have manual passive seat belts, but they're not automatic passive seat belts like the '90-'91 Accord. Another thing: What is the 9th character for?

The 9th digit is a Check Digit (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Check_digit) used to verify that the VIN is correct.
