I run the same size front and rear currently.

But at the autocrosses I go to, I've seen a high hp turbo civic with 9" wide 14" steel wheels with slicks in front and normal stock wheels/tires in the rear. I've also seen the national champ D-stock Integra with staggered tires, 265 in front (on a 7" wide wheel!) and 205 in rear.

There's no reason why you can't fine tune handling characteristics with wheel and tire sizes the same way you would with other suspension modifications. I guess it comes down to money and the rules of your chosen competition platform.

but in ways it will help performance.. a wider tire up front is always best for handling . when i had 165/70/13s on my civic it handled pretty poorly but then i put 195/60/14s up front and it made a HUGE difference in the way the car handled. after tuning the air pressure just right the car would rip thew the canyon like nothing... it became a complete blast to drive. and was taking out newer "better" cars all the time.


(warning: doing canyon runs can be dangerous. not only does it put your life at risk it puts others at risk too. i don't recommend anyone to do this. it also will eat the living crap out of your tires.)

I see no point in this, besides a drag strip, when you need all grip you can get at launch. Running wider than 225 is pointless. because you'll get heavy steering and smaller turn radius. I run 205 and more than happy, never slipped once in tight bends in mountain roads, and I dont drive like your average driver. I managed to wear out brand new tires this summer.
I rather have smaller good sticky tires than wider cheaper once.

In my STX civic I'm considering doing 15x8 front with a 225, and a 15x7 rear with a 205. But that's only for AX not street.

The reason for running a wider front tire for track purposes is better lateral grip, and more contact patch on the drive wheels. etc.... Search in Honda-tech racing section.

If you're doing it for aesthetic purposes then, do it take a picture of it and put it in the appearance pages. If your serious about racing it then read up on it.
