Ok well here it is. I have come to the conclusion that I'm either going to rebuild or swap this engine out. I has some rust in the cylinders so yeah what do you think? Rebuild or junk it for a swap. http://img341.imageshack.us/img341/6992/1112010005.th.jpg (http://img341.imageshack.us/i/1112010005.jpg/)

What are your goals? Is the car a DD that youre just looking to make reliable for everyday use? Or is it something that youre looking to make fast with off the shelf parts? Whats your budget?

edit...pico beat me

I really don't have a solid budget with this car. I pretty much want a nice daily driver. I would like it to be fuel injected so I can use a remote start.

i would prob find a fi donor car at the jy and pull everything needed at once unless you can find one cheap; i only paid 500 for mine. and some jys will sell you whole cars for cheap

When you say "swap," what do you mean? Are you swapping for a rebuilt engine or just getting another core from the wrecking yard that you'll still need to rebuild. Unless something is grievously wrong with the existing engine, you'd do well to rebuild it.

Get the cylinders measured. If they aren't worn too badly they can be bored/honed and oversized pistons put in. At the very least they will need honing to remove the rust.

What I mean by a swap is to put a reman engine in the car. The junk yards here only have Lx's and I am gonna have the block measured. I'm hoping that this block can be saved. As for my cylinder head its shot. Someone helicoiled the hell out of it and drilled the hole too big so the helicoil came out anyway. That is why my engine was knocking. The exhaust manifold was slapping the block like a pimp slapping his bitch lol.

what was helicoiled? if it was helicoiled for the head bolt then that would be your block that was drilled right?

No the head itself was helicoiled. The rocker shaft and the studs for the exhaust manifold.

When I rebuilt my first engine, I had "help." One of the things the "help" "helped" with was cleaning up all the threads on my head using a tap. Mind you, there was nothing wrong with the threads, but I didn't really have much say once the "help" had set his mind on something. When I got the engine back together, not one single bolt held torque in the head. I had to Heli-Coil one bolt. All the rest were held in with liberal doses of Loctite, frequent re-torquing and prayer.
