sounds like it is "choking" when it starts but then it starts right up, but misses for about 1 minute

it doesnt affect drivability at all though...does this mean that a valve is bent?

Most likely, do a cylinder leak down to determine if there is a bent valve.

would a standard compression test help me out? or no

Yeah, actually I think that might work...if a valve is bent it should have a lower compression compared to other cylinders...make sure you do all 4 so you have something to compare it too.

If I understand your statement correctly, no it won't help you out :(
It's just a test to see if your compressions on all cylinders are okie, eliminating the idea of a bent valve.

Not entirely true...to have compression you must have a sealed combustion chamber. If a valve is bent you won't have a complete seal, therefore have lower compression readings. Air will be escaping past the bent valve. You should also notice the car sounds a little funny during start up. It mind sound sorta like "cha-cha-cha-whee-cha-cha-cha-whee" being that "whee" less compression than the others, causing the engine to spin faster as that cylinder comes up to TDC.

it misses? hmmm when you change timing belts do you need to readjust timing?

were you reffering to ingnition timing?

i heard that this could be the problem
