Just a little walk through of the history behind the car.

In Early 1989 the car was purchased by my aunt in El Paso, TX. She owned the car until about 1997 when it was passed on to my brother.

Between 1997 and 2007 everyone in my family used and abused it.

In late 2007 (My Senior year of HS) I took full ownership of the car by having it lowered and having 50 series tires put on the 15" Konigs that were on it at the time (at this point everyone hated even sitting in the car because of the rough ride)

Since 2007 I began lurking 3geez.com and learning quite a bit about the platform and common vehicle failures (most of which i was forced to learn how to fix on my own because of lack of $, or had help from fellow 3geez members.)

The Coupe has seen many major transformations since 2007
1. Stock(ish)

2. Auto Trans went out and did a 5 Speed Swap, beginning to mod the engine with bolt ons with the little aftermarket support that the A20A3 actually has, semi riced out color scheme in the bay.

3. New wheels and dumpedness (also causing a wiring short in the loom in the fenderwell)

4. About almost a year of being parked with a bad wiring harness and a bad starter and being put back to stock

5. The new current build beginning 01/2011 which will be LONG, ONE-OFF, EXPENSIVE, but WELL WORTH IT!!!!

This project will be moving pretty fast with lots of attention to detail, lots of custom retro-fitting, and best of all a SWAP so dont stay away for too long or you might miss something.

Here are some pics of the car from when the mods first started to where it is now.

Phase 1- Before any real mods began and just lots of broken, old, faded, cracked pieces had begun to be replaced with used but good parts from the JY ;)

http://i679.photobucket.com/albums/vv153/dacantu/1989%20Honda%20Accord%20LX-i%20Build/IMG_0260.jpg

At this point in time my Auto Trans took a shit and I went ahead and did a 5-Speed Swap in about Decemberish 2009
(Did not document the swap)

Then I picked up a 2nd Gen Accord Valve Cover and I ended up going with a different color scheme (RICE LOL)

Phase 5- Fast Forward to 1/2/2011 (Current Build)
I got the car running.
- Had lots of help with my wiring issue from a very talented Honda Tech/Electrician (LX-Incredible from 3geez.com) ***He also donated a stock exhaust manifold and stock catback (Thanks again buddy)
- I also Replaced the starter that went bad
- After these couple of things the car started right up and ran for a couple weeks no problem, thats when my clutch finally gave out on 1/24/2011.

Here's where I begin to get the motivation to start up with this project again.....

I called around to a few places to get the best deal on a clutch and clutch cable I could find and on 1/26/2011 I started putting in work. I ran into a couple problems with the light of day, and my clutch cable so finally by 1/27/2011 I was finished with the new clutch being installed, and even had the energy to give her a real nice wash. How 'bout them SI's huh? Used to hate em but on here I absolutely love em.

1/27/2011(Still) After the clutch install it felt just right, shifted smooth, and made me want to keep doing work. SOOOOO, I gave her a nice little wash.

Back on stock suspension

I decided to get back to work and remove the remaining tint left on the back window. (Fishbowl FTW)

Phase 5-cont'd

1/31/2011
Lots of work got done...
1. I Picked up a couple new headlight motors (Mine never worked properly after I had the wiring issue go wrong. So for about a year or so my headlights were permanently popped up)
-I cleaned/restored em to their original finish and voila Brand nUsed VS. the old used ones.
http://i679.photobucket.com/albums/vv153/dacantu/1989%20Honda%20Accord%20LX-i%20Build/IMG_20110131_195133.jpg

2. Did a little bit of spring cleaning (Can you spot the parts I removed?)
http://i679.photobucket.com/albums/vv153/dacantu/1989%20Honda%20Accord%20LX-i%20Build/IMG_20110131_204046.jpg

3. Installed a NRG Quick Release Steering wheel setup that I got in a trade. The setup came with a NRG V2.0 Short Hub from a 94-2001 Integra, a NRG Gunmetal quick release, and a cheap eBay Steering wheel. (I got a hell of a deal in the trade) ***Still needs a little bit of tweeking but its on and functional. Im going to have to look into swapping in a different steering column possibly for a little bit better fitment.

Phase 5-cont'd x2
2/1/2011:
Went to Checker/O'Reilly and picked up 5 feet of new 3/8" P/S lines and a box of clamps. Grabbed a clutch master cylinder from a DC Integra out of my parts pile and went to work on my P/S delete reservoir (this reservoir and bracket are temporary until I find something a little bit more appropriate) I am more than likely going to pick up the same bracket and reservoir that (JFern) picked up for his P/S delete, he is who inspired this simple mod.
http://i679.photobucket.com/albums/vv153/dacantu/1989%20Honda%20Accord%20LX-i%20Build/IMG_20110201_192937.jpg

Enjoy for now boys! :bandit:
Also Update for tmw: Can you guess what these are? Yup, cut DropZone Lowering Springs on blown stock struts lol (These are VERY temporary, i just hate the monster truck look and already have new suspension in the works ;)). Theyre already put back on my car and yet again I'm pretty damn low. Pictures of the car will have to wait until tmrw when I get the car washed after this last rain/dust/wind storm that randomly came through AZ.

And for the very near future, Here's a little something I picked up. Some 4 door rear handles for a key hole delete, and the 2 way pager alarm with door lock actuators out of my old crashed DC Integra.

Eeeh I dont know about the jerry rigged susp, its very bouncy. I hate how it rides but I absolutely love being LOW, all my cars have always been lowered to the point where I'm used to bottoming out. Hopefully sooner than later if things go as planned I will be purchasing BRAND NEW quality susp, and because this particular Manufacturer is local to me I might be able to get it much sooner than having it shipped. :bandit:

Sorry to hear about your SE-i though. I know what its like to have a practically totaled car and not have the will to let it go. I recently sent that one vehicle I was proud of (a DC Integra) to the Scrap Metal yard completely stripped. I know the feeling

i really didn't hate the bay with the red valve cover. interested to see what you do with it! and just so you know, pull the drivers side fender and stuff that huge wiring loom way up high so your tires don't hit it. i've burned through it in places. and not to mention the hood release cable...

I wasn't feeling the red at the time.

Yeah I've got the wiring loom issue worked out. I machined some brackets that hold the harness up as high as it goes in the fender well without coming close to the tire.

Yeah lately its been more over whelming because i want to strip the car for paint but don't know how far i will get by spring. I use to feel more motivated when this site had a lot going on. Now i lurk around and it is very slow going here but thats the nature of building a older car and taking so long to build it.

Maybe if you hearthat I completely stripped every single removable part/screw off of my Acura integra carefully without breaking anything (besides glass lol) in 2 afternoons you might be a little more motivated to start soon. But I agree the fact that this site is so slow moving is what got me to stop logging. In for periods of time. But seeing my car not being showed the love she deserves is what really goreally got me going again.

UPDATE 2/8/2011
:D
1. Finally got around to doing a little bit of cleaning on the bay after the PS/AC/CC delete. I had cleaned my bay a few times before, so this time I just took it down to the Self Service car wash, sprayed it with some (LA's Totally Awesome Grill and Stove Degreaser,) let it sit for a few minutes and let the pressure washer do the rest. NOTE! If you do this be very careful not to get water in your intake, let the engine cool or you could warp different parts if not completely F your engine, and cover distributor.
http://i679.photobucket.com/albums/vv153/dacantu/1989%20Honda%20Accord%20LX-i%20Build/IMG_20110205_141431.jpg

Here's a close up of the PS delete reservoir. (You can see my ghetto rigged hood prop, I've gotta pick up OEM hardware for that soon, It looks so shitty)

2. I also picked up some Brand Newsed H, Accord, and Trim Level emblems. I was stupid a long time ago when I removed the emblems (face palm) I have to scavenge through my stockpile of parts and find the Original HONDA and DICK POE HONDA Dealer emblems and reattach those. Here's wha the emblems look like after a bit of polishing.

BIG UPDATE 2/16/2011

So I've been doing a little bit of work in my free time :D
I figured since I had tons of parts from my wrecked Integra I'd go ahead and custom fit most of the suspension to the Accord in order to increase my options for aftermarket parts. So I went ahead and picked up some stock accord parts to make taking measurements tons easier than attempting to take measurements while the parts were on the car. Picked up all of this for the low price of $50 bucks
http://i679.photobucket.com/albums/vv153/dacantu/1989%20Honda%20Accord%20LX-i%20Build/IMG_20110209_174155.jpg

Here are the Integra parts I removed from my wrecked DC and that I will be using to adapt to the Accords chassis. I also sawzalled (I know its not pretty but I left lots of room to work with later) the Integra rear subframe out of the car, now I have to find a way make this fit the accord which really shouldnt be hard but will require me to cut part of the accord :( After modifying and installing the rear subframe I plan on going with either an ASR or Function 7 rear subframe brace, with function 7 Lower Control Arms and an ASR rear sway bar!
http://i679.photobucket.com/albums/vv153/dacantu/1989%20Honda%20Accord%20LX-i%20Build/IMG_20110209_182502.jpg

This past weekend I ran into a problem with the Fuel IN line. I was on my way home when it happened, so I attempted to ghetto rig it in order to make it the extra 3 mile trip home. 3 miles later the fuel leak went from a small squirt to a huge leak and I lost more than 1/4 tank of gas.
http://i679.photobucket.com/albums/vv153/dacantu/1989%20Honda%20Accord%20LX-i%20Build/IMG_20110211_130826.jpg

So on Sunday 2/13/2011 I made a trip to the JY and picked up a Brand Nused Fuel Line (I couldnt let myself pay $70+ on the Honda Parts websites) After getting home I cleaned up the JY line a bit with some AWESOME Degreaser and a Scotch Brite pad. Here is a pic of the old and new line after cleaning it up.
http://i679.photobucket.com/albums/vv153/dacantu/1989%20Honda%20Accord%20LX-i%20Build/IMG_20110213_182055.jpg

While at the JY I didnt let myself leave without checking the interior, trunk, engine bay, and suspension of each and every 3gee in the yard (atleast 30 to 35 3geez). Low and behold after checking just about each and everyone and down to the last few I decide to open the door to a 3gee that I was literally about to skip and look at what I find. Original 1989 owners manual, Original 1989 Warranty Book, Cruise Control Instructions, and an AM/FM/Cassette Player Instructions Manual. Can you say JY Score!!!!?

I also found an Armrest in an LX-i along with cupholders that were trash. I left the cupholder there and picked up the Armrest even though I dont need it. Its going in the stock pile.

BIG UPDATE 2/16/2011 CONT'D

I also picked up a couple sets of used NGK wires from the JY for $0 since I cant manage to find my old set. Heres what they looked like when I got home
http://i679.photobucket.com/albums/vv153/dacantu/1989%20Honda%20Accord%20LX-i%20Build/IMG_20110213_173733.jpg

What they looked like after about 10 minutes of elbow grease.http://i679.photobucket.com/albums/vv153/dacantu/1989%20Honda%20Accord%20LX-i%20Build/IMG_20110213_173650.jpg

Here's the bay with the old (practically new with only like 750 miles) plugs.
http://i679.photobucket.com/albums/vv153/dacantu/1989%20Honda%20Accord%20LX-i%20Build/IMG_20110213_173751.jpg

Here are the NGK installed. So pretty!!!!

After the last 4 years of searching for one of these prop rod clips at the JY I FINALLY found one!
http://i679.photobucket.com/albums/vv153/dacantu/1989%20Honda%20Accord%20LX-i%20Build/IMG_20110213_165625.jpg

Prop rod before. Protected with the insulation from hitting the positive post on the battery (which had already happened once before and it wasnt pretty)
http://i679.photobucket.com/albums/vv153/dacantu/1989%20Honda%20Accord%20LX-i%20Build/IMG_20110213_170843.jpg

After installing the clip. Ahh I can now rest easy knowing my prop rod is secure!
http://i679.photobucket.com/albums/vv153/dacantu/1989%20Honda%20Accord%20LX-i%20Build/IMG_20110213_170902.jpg

I also managed to finally find a set of Hatch mouldings that werent all beat up or bent. These are not in the best of shape finish wise but I do plan on cleaning them up a little, and refinishing them with SEM Trim Paint.
http://i679.photobucket.com/albums/vv153/dacantu/1989%20Honda%20Accord%20LX-i%20Build/IMG_20110213_165447.jpg

Wait do you mean the black wrinkle plate on the valve cover? I just used aircraft remover or paint remover from a spray can. You can get it at auto zone or checker o' reilly.

And thanks Charlie ill be working on the side moldings today man. Pics will be up either today or tomorrow.

Update 2/19/2011

So two nights ago I put in some work on the moldings I pulled off a hatch at the yard, i've just been too lazy to update.

After sanding them down
http://i679.photobucket.com/albums/vv153/dacantu/1989%20Honda%20Accord%20LX-i%20Build/IMG_20110217_200155.jpg

This is how the car sat without molding probably for 2 years now.
http://i679.photobucket.com/albums/vv153/dacantu/1989%20Honda%20Accord%20LX-i%20Build/IMG_20110203_173055.jpg

And after painting them with Trim Paint this is the outcome, there are still a few minor imperfections but I'm satisfied for now. I will be looking to buy some brand new ones along with brand new bumper covers when I get my car painted. They fit just like the stock coupe molding do but look 1,000,000x better!

The tire wear is pretty bad but these are new tires so im not too worried about it right now. And yeah actually the trim was peeling from the sun so injustice took a razor blade to it and made it look as nice as I could. I will be buying new trim when I paint it. For an extra fresh look

Yes Integras are double wishbone type suspension. The point isnt to just run some nice control arms. Its so that I can expand my options for better quality parts. It gives me room to mess around with and tweak my suspension. Who knows, in the end it might not be worth the trouble but it cant hurt to try it.

haha...that one low coupe

Thanks Jesse. I think for functionality I might be raising it in the near future. It wont be a whole lot but just enough to ride comfortably, fit some nice wheels, to accomplish a nice stance, and also for fitment of whats coming next :D

Update 3/1/2011

So yesterday 2/28/2011 I picked up my new GSR Head.

Details on the head: Ported and polished, 3 angle valve job, supertech dual valve springs, JDM GSR cams with a polished port matched ITR intake manifold.

I will be on the lookout for a JDM B20 Block (not JDM B20A) and will hopefully be starting my CR-VTEC/B20VTEC swap sooner than anticipated. The head will be cleaned, checked for warpage, inspected for quality of said work done, and I will more than likely do out with the entire valve train as well as the cams and cam gears. All in all the head will be brand new before it is ever mounted on a block.

Here she is guys

I'm not so sure on the rear bumpers being interchangeable. I've never looked at them well enough to compare. I'm going to have to try it one day that I'm at the junkyard.

If youre ever interesed in me sending you one of those bumpers I'm more than willing. You would have to pay the cost of the bumper plus shipping but if youre really that interested there is a mint condition one at a junkyard near my home.

UPDATE 3/13/2011

So I got some small things done over the last week. I began to install the stock exhaust that Angus donated to me over the summer. I was so tired of the ricer ass exhaust that I installed a couple years back (what a waste of funds)

I was planning on installing it after giving it a rinse with the water hose but it wasnt convincing enough for me. I thought it would take away from the overall appearance of the car. So I went ahead and applied a small amount of the good old elbow grease. :D

Before

Update 3/13/2011 CONT'D

This one here is for Rendon :D

I remembered Rendon posting a thread on these visors, so I went ahead and mocked it up on the rear window of my coupe. It fir with absolutely no modification and actually follows the lines of the car (where the window ends and the roof begins.)

Before mocking it up to the car I thought it would just be for the sake of research lol but after seeing it mounted I decided I actually liked how it looks. The color of my car i think flows well with the visor. I'm going to go ahead and keep it on there for a while and decide whether it'll stay or not although before I put it on I thought they looked horrible on just about any other car lol

that piping on the ricer exhaust looks quite good...2.5"?

I would totally try putting on a different muffler on there, or sell the piping make some extra change :)

I will be having a better muffler (RS*R) welded on to 2.25" piping once the swap is finished. But 2.5" was just a little over the top.

I'm not sure if its your old piping but its mine now lol :P

Yeah it is 2.5" and in great condition man, the only problem is that it is one whole piece and shipping would be stupidly priced. It really not worth it to me to sell unless someone local bought it. I'm thinking of picking up an RS*R axleback exhaust and throwing it on 2.25" piping once I swap the B in there.

Were you able to pull off those parts this weekend?

Lol yeah its an '89 LX-i in white with minty maroon interior. It has a auto trans thats trashed, but the car starts up and runs like a dream. Has brand new tires, and brand new Pioneer stereo and speakers. Paid $500 for it. Pics coming up, i'll post a link.

RS*R makes a great sounding exhaust. I hope having to modify one for my accord won't change that drastically if at all which I'm sure it will.

Oh hai guyz!!!

So I've been away from my Accord for a very long time now. Its been stored away in the backyard for over a year or so now but the build will be coming back to life guys. Im going to try and get it back to its former glory atleast for the moment. So here's an update for the moment.

Picked up these wheels since my car is currently on steelies.
MSW 15x6.5" 4x100 Very Old Skool look to them.

thanks guys gotta get some tires for em, thinking 215/50/15 or even 225/50/15 if i can fit them we'll see... also want to run some spacers so im not tucking as much and get them to sit flush with the fenders.
