Quick question about vent looking thing

Alright, so there is this black box looking vent in the back of my hatch just past the drivers side wheel well. The interior is out, otherwise you couldn't see it. It goes from behind the interior panelling to outside behind the bumper. It's not connected to anything, just goes from inside to outside. Anyone know what it is for? Sorry no camera right now...

Yeah, it lets the air out of the car because the air coming in needs somewhere to go. All cars have this. You'll notice slots in a lot of SUV's tail lights. :)
