View Full Version : Tec coil........Hitachi distributor???
I have a tec coil (says so on it thats how i determined this) so I naturally figured i had a tec distributor.......but I went to autozone, got a tec distributor cap and rotor, got home, put the rotor on no problem (matches the old rotor perfect), but then theres the cap......its not the same. I went back to autozone, had them get me a hitachi cap, and it fits, and matches the one on my car......wtf??

They sometimes get their catalog numbers mixed up. It's happened to me buying wheel bearing seals. Post a pic of your dizzie and we can tell you for absolute.

Yeah, that's not a TEC distributor. I just wanted to be the first to reply.
sooooo then how do I have one of these, with a tec coil, tec rotor??

Definitely a Hitachi. Are you sure you aren't seeing TEC on the igniter module?
possibly? Im looking at the coil lol theres so many things on this car that im not used to dealing with, but like I said the rotor definitely matches the one I took off the car and I got a TEC rotor........
For clarification, the coil is attached to the distributor via a plug type wire, thats the coil Im looking at, says TEC right on the side, couldnt be clearer......

I don't want to make assumptions here, but I have never heard of a Hitachi coil on these cars. Does anyone have a Hitachi coil? It is also easily possible that TEC makes repair and replacement parts for ignition systems that are not predominantly TEC. Plenty of other companies do this; Bosch, Standard Ignition, AC Delco...
Ok, my biggest question is.......does it matter that I have a hitachi distributor and tec everything else??? if it runs, i dont care, i just want to make sure that if I have a problem, I dont overlook something as major as this, my car did have a misfire, i replaced cap, rotor, plugs and wires, plugs and wires alone didnt fix it, still havent started it yet to see if the misfire is gone
