high risk
u can check them by grabbing the shaft and the big knuckle thing and twist. if there is any play than they are bad... actually a little play is ok but if u can really move it than it is no good

and also check the condition of the boots....
they should be relitivly soft and flexible....if they are pretty hard and hard to bend then the boots are old and that normally means the axlees are the same...old and no better on the inside...
mabye youd get lucky and find some wreck with new ones on it.

u got a good working car? and its not a trial and error project, then get rebuilt axles. U dont wanna get major parts like these from the junk. For replacing parts, never go cheap.

For real. Rebuilt ones are about $60 a side.

i agree with you guys...rebuilts are double the price not 10X the price and potentially less frustrating

i dont have to pull em myself and swap 6 or 7 just to get it right

should i decide to go crazy, i will let you know if i lucked out

I usually get mine from the wreckers. You just need to inspect them properly plus I get good warranties. But when I do friend's cars, I get rebuilds.
