Typically, NGK plugs and wires are a Honda enthusiasts' go-to for stock replacement. The problem is the listed wires for the '85 SE-i do not fit very well. They are too small creating a stretched fit. This wire set is p/n- HE39 (9731); which is possibly a copy of the A20 set[?].

Notice how stretched the wires are. Not cool.
The NGK p/n that fits correctly is HE37 (8014), which is listed as replacement for 1984-1985 1.8L 3bbl. You may need to retain your old coil boot.

have you compared the first set to the three geez wires? the reason I ask, is factory wires don't fit my A20 due to different wire looms, if these are NGK and a little longer then factory A20 wires , they may be a perfect match for my setup

Did this ever get resolved? I was considering buying a set of these wires for my 85 SEI.

Do you want to know why they don't fit... I mean do you really want to know why??? This is gonna blow your mind!!! You have an incorrect distributor cap on your SE-i. The SE-i uses a side post cap whereas the carbureted cars (mostly) all had top post caps. Some of the caps will interchange because the distributor manufacturers are the same but won't necessarily be the "correct" one for the car. If you look up the wire set in the Honda parts catalog they are different part numbers for Carbed vs PGM-Fi. Weird eh? Hence the wires being a tight fit on your car. Blamo, I just mind freaked all of you, ha ha.

Mind blown! But yeah, I know now what you're saying. I've seen those side mount distributor caps on the SEi before, but never thought anything of it.

That might also explain why my upper radiator hose is a tight fit around my distributor cap.
