i dont have a fifth gear in my car, it will slide in and sit where fifth is susposed to be but will not engage it just revs freely and (freeway driving and 4th is not to much fun). all the other gears are fine no problem i dont power shift it or abuse the tranny at all fifth gear hasnt worked since i bought the car. I have no clue whats wrong with it. is their anyone else out there who is having this issue with their car?

they only guess i have is the syncros are bad or i have a bad shift fork.

apparently quite common for them to fail. you can replace it though, you don't even have to pull the gearbox out of the car. just undo the little black cover on the end and that will expose your 5th gear

only the same 5th gear from the same car will work.

Make sure it's from a fuel-injected car as carbureted models have slightly different gear ratios.

There's also the 1984-1987 Prelude, ShyBoy.

^^^ Are the gears different or is it just the ring gear on the diff that's different? I suspect the ring gear is a little smaller on the carb cars.

yeah all accords have the same gears. fuel injected models come with a 4.066 final drive and the carb models are 3.8

Oh, I thought if the final drive was different, the whole ratio changed... :D

But. Still. 1984-1987 Preludes work, yes?

Try changing your gear oil to Honda type. Make certain that it's topped off, not low. Rocketman

I got mine at a part store, not a dealer. I'm in Pennsylvania and we have a lot of A & A Auto Parts stores, that's where I got it. Why not try online? Rocketman

Most people here run GM Syncromesh with extremely good results. That's what I've used in the past. It's my go-to MT trans fill. The stuff is just that good.

yeah but honda changed the formula and now people say that honda is better now

I love when they do that and supersede the old formula. It's good to know that the new Honda fluid is the top shelf stuff now.
