This question seems to come up every now and then. The tire store guys (Discount, NTB) always say to run with the pressure on the door jamb tire placard. That would be 26 psi for me. I have done that with a couple of sets of tires. I tend to run 30 these days in hopes of improving fuel economy slightly without sacrificing too much in ride comfort. I used to run whatever the tire stated as max pressure, which, on one set of tires was 44 psi. The ride was lousy and the tires didn't last any longer. I did get great highway fuel economy, though. Unfortunately, I cannot compare pre-1995 fuel economy with now. When D/FW swtiched to reformulated gasoline in 1995 I monitored my fuel economy closely because I read that it could drop 3-4%. The actual figure was much worse. I dropped from 29 mpg to 26 in combined city/highway/traffic. That's actually a bit over 10%. I sure the hell hope that I am polluting less because the performance and fuel economy has never returned to its pre-1995 levels.

Back to tires. I have had about a dozen sets during the 22 years I have owned this car. I have yet to find ones that I think are ideal. Problem is that as soon as I find one I REALLY like the manufacturer either redesigns it or stops making it. This is especially true for the 14" tires.

i always ran 32psi front and back with both 195/50 and 205/50/15s.
tires always lasted well and economy was good to.
