My car will start to get sanded this Sunday by a friend of mine that actually works in painting only during the weekends, so it will take us a couple of weeks to get it done.
I like the marron, but I also like this gray. So I have a few days to decide the color.

This is how it looks today.

u sanding the whole car to metal/primer??

Buzo
04-27-2011, 08:25 PM
The pics I posted was after 1 day work only. There are too much work still to do with the car before the primer.

The paint was too thick so he used paint remover to get rid of the little cracks. The damage in the left fender has been fixed already but I still believe we are going to need a couple of full working days to finish it.

My friend is really knowledgeable about painting, so my car will turn into the second best maroon car in this site :)

That's the plan for everything except for the trunk which wasn't that bad.

Buzo is doing the right thing in this case with sanding the paint down to the metal. As a suggestion try leaving the original paint on the car, don't go all the way down to the metal. General rule of thumb: the best paint is factory paint as far as adhesion goes. get a really nice high building primer too and not the stuff in the rattle cans!

I'd give the honors to RobT's old car.

I'd look at the hood fender alignments sometime. From your pictures the hood is not centered between the front fenders. It's something you can do anytime after paint.

Certainly there are some alignments to do, hopefully the guy painting it do it for me!
Last week's update was just more sanding. Right now all roof, sides and hood is bare metal, so it doesn't worth a picture yet. The goal for tomorrow is to apply the primer. I hope so.

It was taken last sunday in the sunset. So its hard to tell what color is it but it is what I selected.

Done!

Well, almost, I still need to reassembly everything inside & outside and get it polished + some details in black I want to add + tinted windows.

Better pictures when completed (yeah, sure, completed, haha I already need some wheels)

Sorry guys, its late already and I could take only this pic, but the paint job is done after polishing the paint. Even the door plastic parts are painted black but we will install them tomorrow.

OK, one more but its also really dark. While waiting for the paint job I removed the old tint, at this time I like how it looks with the clear windows, I'll decide later if I apply new tint or just leave them clear.

There are a few details still pending to be painted black, a line around the bumpers, in the post at the middle of the front and back seats, the little piece in the roof holding the antenna, etc.

very nice , she looks great. get the block and wet sand out and get that clear coat or paint (dunno what paint system you used). but wait at least 3 to 4 months before polishing it to allow the paint to fully cure fully

Looks really good!

I did this very same thing 2 years ago...but I did the "100 dollar paint job" with a roller and I was happy with the end product believe it or not.

Keep those before pictures....amazing how fast you get used to new paint and forget!

Looks great and excited to see final product pics in good light!
