Well. I've got everything on except injectors and rad fan. Was gonna start her up to check for oil leaks... BUT I realized I didn't have my ECU on me. Also, was trying to get a basemap going just a little while ago, and fucking piece of shit crome isn't working at all on my laptop. fml. SO now I'll have to wait til Friday to get some real management... anyone using ECtune on here????

gfrg88
04-01-2012, 07:39 AM
tried starting the car a little bit ago on stock p72 ecu. I'm a dumbass. I forgot to add oil. Have to pull everything back off, and see what all happened. Thinking I might just part this whole shit out and go B series...

04-02-2012, 01:02 PM
Oh man that suck big time! How long where you trying to start it before you realized?

89T
04-02-2012, 05:08 PM
did you run it for a long extended time? Does the compressor wheel still turn?

Tdurr
04-03-2012, 09:16 PM
How long did u try and crank it??? That's the big question. I would've just added oil and turned the motor over by hand then started it. U can run an a series very low on oil for a while(ask how I kno..) so I'm sure just turning it over for a few seconds isn't gonna hurt much unless u tried for minuets.

gfrg88
04-05-2012, 05:14 AM
I'll have pics and vids tomorrow. Maybe tonight...

Fuck that skank KARMA!!!!

Well, the whole no oil thing was an April fools joke. Have vids of the start up of the car.. took her out for a cruise (on my way to meet up with Ryan), and the fucker decided to start spitting oil everywhere :'(

Oil feed line was hitting manifold, burned a pin hole through. got oil all over car. I'm super glad I didn't have hood on, or else I probably would have not caught it in time. Replacing feed line tonight, and will have vids and pics up ;)

weeeee!!!! Hit's full 5 pounds of boost by 4k rpms!!!! Time to turn up the boost!!!! Did a gangster one wheeled wonder all of 1st and 2nd.. dsm 450s are already at 75% duty cycle with the corn fuel only at 5psi :hs:

Tdurr
04-07-2012, 08:27 PM
What is ur afr at that? U should be a tad bit on the rich side even with corn fuel.

12.5-12.8.

Threw on the 1000s. Had quite fun trying to idle them, and shooting big flames out the 3.5" downpipe was awesome!! Turned the boost up to 8, and she pulled amazing! Saw full 8psi at 4500 rpms. she pulls awesome!! :D

uploading some pics nao! ;)

I will personally say, that this car is damn fast! Gio had no problem pulling away from my b16 prelude which i like to think is moderately quick. I mean he literally left me with out any problems. This is one seriously fast car.

Got a vid I have to upload. Clutch is slipping really bad, so was only about 3/4 throttle, and loosing some boost, due to boost leak somewhere...

i was breaking em loose WTF jk gio. seems like its choking. the hotter the tune the faster the turbo will spool. kinda like a jet you need to feed it fuel. lol

89T
04-11-2012, 05:25 PM
Not bad Gio, get those parts.

gfrg88
04-11-2012, 06:30 PM
Yeah, with that tiny turbo anyone will spin them loose lmfao. My turbo would swallow that thing up haha ;D

Btw, that was with me having boost leak, and couldn't get past 5 psi again :(

A/F ratio is at 10-11. and pulling 1* timing per boost :hs:

Tdurr
04-11-2012, 08:14 PM
Pull .75 degrees.
And fix that boost leak. Best way to do so is to make a boost leak tester. I made one outta a bike innertube and a clamp over the turbo inlet. Found that 4 pipes leaked up to 12 psi lol

89T
04-12-2012, 02:46 AM
Way too rich Gio. 12.5:1 is ideal under boost.

gfrg88
04-12-2012, 05:56 AM
I know it's way too rich. and too much timing being pulled. I've been playing with it pulling fuel a little bit each run. But I haven't had much time, and clutch needs replacement soon. I'm throwing on another filter here soon, and gonna get some more street tuning done. Hoping I can get in on a dyno day tomorrow :D

89T

Blasterperformance 63/70 garret custom buildt turbo rated for 550-600 hp is a 4inch inlet. Fast spool an small Hotside for fast spool . custom made for a d16 but I I was full boost at 3 grand lol was no 1st gear or 2nd. Super small turbo lol. Btw it's for sale lol

I would pull timing a degree per pound of boost rule of thumb. Something wrong thou brother . time to do some changes befor you wash your rings out. Looks good thou

gfrg88
04-12-2012, 08:38 PM
I haven't really driven it guys lol.. I'm a busy guy!! haha! I just added what I had to crome, and created a basemap. I'm gonna do some street tuning before I hit the dyno ;)

Great to hear it was a simple fix. I prob would never have checked the dizzy lol.

But I believe Jerry told me that u only need to pull .75degrees and go from there on tuning. In had mine at .70 cuz my ignition box wouldn't do .05 lol

gfrg88

I like it. stays out of boost longer. I know I can tune, and maybe port the turbo, to get it spooling faster. This is still on shitty tune lol

Just cause I'm not a series no more doesn't mean I bash lol. I was agreeing with RODS AN PISTONS. Chill out . I'll be making 240 all motor btw lol

89T
04-14-2012, 07:57 PM
wasnt bashing bro.

gfrg88
04-15-2012, 07:57 AM
240 all motor?! Damn.. I wanna see that. I went from 90whp, to almost 250. Not bad, eh.

Oh well, I knew she was gonna blow soon. I wanted to see how much power I could make just to show people the potential of the A series. I was pleased with it. I don't think it was the tune; it was more the fact that I revved to high and push almost 15psi on a big turbo. I don't think any stock engine can handle revving 2k rpms above stock redline :)

Rendon LX-i
04-15-2012, 08:10 AM
That how I was I blew her 2 times. Ls vtecs can do 240 all motor easy an I have all the head work an flow needed an you'll see it trust me. You should know bout Ls vtecs you can make 180 on stock setup . Point Beening it's gonna be a savage. 12:5.1 an full stage 3 head. Yeah buddy. 230-40 easy

I was pushing 220ish or more an lasted a while then I heard oil pressure when by by lol. I just got tired of the custom shit an so on. I did my time with boosted A an did respected numbers .

An trust a b series looks so nice in the bay. My intentions to me seems like you seem like I'm talking shit but I'm not I've been on the a20 boosted team an now since I'm not a20 no more I have less respect or nobody seems to give a shit WHICH I don't give a fuck lol.

Good job Gio

gfrg88
04-15-2012, 08:28 AM
lol. I'm not thinking you're talking shit, bro. And even if you were, I wouldn't take offense to it. I've had my fair share of b series builds. I'm going backwards here. Going to stick with the A for now, and see how far it can take me ;)

gfrg88
04-15-2012, 09:57 AM
I'm having a hard time finding the pistons i want in 83mm bore. Should I build up an a18 block?

89T
04-15-2012, 10:10 AM
What pistons are you looking at?

gfrg88
04-15-2012, 10:41 AM
SRP. Also thought about Probe just because I hear they're cheap and good.. or so I've read..

MessyHonda
04-15-2012, 05:08 PM
i paid 155 per custom pistons from weisco. they are really nice and built my pistons to my specs and they were coated sides too.

Tdurr
04-15-2012, 05:41 PM
U just ask for a 30overbore b18 piston right?

And i love the numbers u made. I wish i coulved dynoed my old car :(

Sucks she let go so soon but at least u know everything works lol. Btw pump gas or e85 on that dyno pull?

hondalude86
04-15-2012, 07:07 PM
he was running e85 that day...

Gio, I only paid 770 shipped for my rods and pistons. Might be harder to find 83mm bore stuff, but I know that it exists. Also, if you need the number for the crazy old fart that did my engine work let me know, he wasn't to spending and was did amazing work! My crank was totally fucked, and when I got it back from him, it was insanely beautiful! He even helped me find my bearings for cheap, ACL race baby!

MessyHonda

hondalude86

gfrg88

I know they make them. Its just the ones I wanted I couldn't find in 83mm. I wanted to keep it under 500 for pistons. Fuck it. I'll just go with CP pistons.

gfrg88
04-19-2012, 08:24 AM
So I've decided I'm going with an 84mm bore. Don't think headgasket will work. So will be ordering one from cometic.

I'm also thinking of doing big valve conversion on head while I'm at it..

MessyHonda
04-19-2012, 09:14 PM
so stock b20 pistons?

gfrg88
04-20-2012, 07:21 AM
not stock, but yes. b20 pistons. flat top. which should be like 10:1, plus the .030 that's shaved off the head. should be close to 11:1?

BUT!!! This will be put off for another month, or so. I'm picking up a CRX for the girly that needs some work... DD with some grunt to it. Already has b18b1 in it with blown headgasket. stripped, pretty damn clean. for stupid cheap, so can't pass up on it!! :D

So I've decided I'm going with an 84mm bore. Don't think headgasket will work. So will be ordering one from cometic.

84mm will be pushing the head gasket to the limit, especially with heavy boost. Going from 83mm to 84mm gets you almost nothing in terms of compression ratio, a gain of about 0.2 points. Honestly I would say it's not worth the trouble.

If you want to bump up the compression it would be better to mill the head. 2mm off gets you to 11:1. If you want more then weld up the chambers. Getting flat top pistons will help too. Will all that you should be able to get to 13:1 or so.

Does Cometic even make an A20 gasket?

I'm also thinking of doing big valve conversion on head while I'm at it..

SI can make the valves for you. Figure around $35 each. Combined with the above work you'll want to start worrying about valve clearance if you intend to run a high lift cam.

C|

gfrg88
04-20-2012, 10:08 AM
Reason I want 84mm is because probe doesn't make an 83mm piston. I was planning on talking to SI about valves. The head is already milled .030". Cometic makes gaskets for anyone; money talks ;)

I'm wondering if I should get another head that's not milled? I'm worried about the p2v clearance :dunno:

Hey i hear ya, I'm excited to see this thing back up and running, you should get the IJ oil pan baffle for this thing while you have it apart, think its like 50$. I've noticed a huge difference just in my red prelude alone. Literally never lose oil pressure under hard cornering.

Just resurface the stock one.. Which reminds me, I need to take it in soon.

AccordEpicenter
10-27-2012, 09:55 AM
all things considered, id say your dyno numbers are really solid considering the setup you have with the stock ish head and cam and log mani. IF you reeaaaaallly have to have 500whp the things that are going to limit your power are the log mani (at high boost id say it could make the difference between making 350whp with the log and 450whp with a 4-1 or top mount etc) and headwork (springs to rev higher and maybe some porting) and possibly a cam. I dont reccomend a cam unless you at least get springs and retainers so you can rev higher. Be careful with your cam selection also. Also Id see if i could throw at least a 3" downpipe/exhaust in there to free up some power. 2.5" charge pipes are fine just make sure the fmic is big enough.

I have Bisi springs in it now. Downpipe is 3.5"(huge! lol). I plan on switching the turbo along with the exhaust mani. Thinking kinda front mount, but to where I can still fit a small filter and not attract too much attention. Cam is on its way, colt cams stage 1 turbo. Head is also ported and polished a bit.

What turbo you think is a good bang for the price? You think that front mount mani will be good? Should I do a more agressive cam? I'm not sure how the fmic will do. It's not big and it's a cheap ebay one(JDM RACER.. lol). Btw, what management were you using? I'm stuck between all ectune, neptune, and hondata..

AccordEpicenter
10-27-2012, 09:49 PM
Im using Crome... works good. Ok Bisi springs should be fine... i didnt know your dp was that big! haha... What did you have in mind exactly for the manifold, Im not exactly sure what you mean. As for the cam itll prolly be fine. Im not sure exactly what your fmic will support... what size is it again? I personally like precision turbos like a 6162 or 6262. I used an older 6152S with the old turbine side (a bit on the small side on this motor for max power) they are reasonably priced for a new turbo. If youd like you can also use somthing like a holset HX40 etc which are cheaper because you can find them used. If you go with a holset you might want to go use the divided tang housing and divide the collector for the best performance, which you can also do if you go with a turbo with a T4 flanged divided tang housing also. That might be the best route but its also takes the most fab to make it fit/work.

Wow! I'm sketchy with crome at those power levels! haha. Yeah the dp is big! fmic is 28x7x2.5. Thought about an HX40. Idk, I guess I have to wait to see how my turbo does, I never got to really get on it since the clutch never really held at all.

Here's the idea I have for a mani

AccordEpicenter

hx40 is good and you should be able to make 500whp with it. That fmic will be small for 500whp also. You could try it but keep in mind most 6" cores are only rated to about 350whp... so 7" might get you 400whp without it being a measurable restriction...

air to water works tits for an all out drag setup but its usually not the hot setup for the street because when all the ice melts in your reservoir your charge air temps start to rise fast. This is why i stayed air to air, not as complex. Nothing wrong with air to water though if you want to go that route.

Hmm. My brother has one on his landcruiser and his IAT is actually lower than n/a. Reason he got it is because he does a lot of offroading with it, and an fmic wouldn't help out when he's going through a trail at less than 5 miles an hour for an entire day...

Just got a good price back for turbo manifold might be tempted over to the darkside! lol! Blow through weber setup could be interesting just want a small turbo to get it upto 250whp with fat torque should get minimal lag and with not much weight in the car to drag should make it pretty rapid!! Gonna look at how easy it is to blow DCOE's first though before I commit but I'll probably buy it anyway even if I don't use it as it's not much!!

I found some specs on my turbo finally-
17cm2
Compressor inducer 65mm, exducer 74 mm, 44 trim
Turbine inducer 50 mm, exducer 75 mm, 77 trim

So it's not too big, I also found two of the exhaust studs on the old head were stripped, and I was missing one nut. That's what was causing so much lag, and boost not coming in so hard. My turbo wasn't spooling fully. Go figure, still made almost 250whp :D

Mine happily revs to 8500rpm peak power at 7600rpm if I had a decent header would be more like 8000rpm peak instead though. Block on mine is blueprinted but all the main parts are 100% Honda, rods, bolts, pistons. Rings are hastings, bearings are ACL racing, the wrist pins are Federal mogul as they're lighter one day might get round to fitting those titanium ones I'd like made! lol! Seriously though I would really love some Eagle titanium rods, titanium pins, JE forged high compression pistons, more titanium in the head for valves, retainers, Bisi springs and push that engine right up to 9000rpm if possible with a dirty cam running 295 degree duration and 12mm lift all round. I think that would definatley get me onto around 240-250bhp :) Sound like a bag of nails idling but you don't get to hear that too often! haha!

Hey Gio,

Yeah, I just recently discovered that the SI Preludes have a different front cross member that only has the holes for the front style mount. :banghead: For whatever reason the Accords have both sets of holes so they're fine. I'm working on a revised bracket that uses the front style holes that will work with the SI Prelude and with the Accords, but I'm not sure when they'll be available. More people are suddenly running into this issue though so I'll see if I can expedite things. When they are ready I'll send you a new front bracket at no charge. Not sure I still have your address so I'll PM you if I need it.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Ok, guys. The car runs! It needs a bit of tuning. I'm having a very hard time with my clutch slipping really bad. Idk why. I thought my clutch cable had stretched, due to bad adjustment. Now I got a CRX one in, which came off a running car with no problems. And I still can't adjust the damn thing to a point where it's working normal! I've got an oil leak coming from my valve cover that I saw today, going down into tranny. Think that could be my issue? I feel like a noob. Help guys

Eh, not likely. Oil from the valve cover would drip down the block but it wouldn't really be able to get on the clutch disc. Even with a rear main leak the oil will just spin off the back of the flywheel.
Nothing has changed with he clutch since before?

So did you ever get a measurement on your front mount height?

Well its a new clutch. Wasn't on the old set up. It was fine, then started slipping, and has only gotten worse.

I didnt measure it, but with both welded together and onto the crossmember worked well :)

Slipping would indicate the cable is too tight, or something else is wrong.

You welded the new bracket to the cross member and the poly mount to the bracket? That's one way to do it I guess. It would still be helpful to have a measurement on your old stock mount though if you still have it.

Yeah, I know. It just started slipping. It either slips, or won't go into gear.

I welded the two brackets together, then bolted the poly mount.

Oh, I see what you mean now. You can't measure the old one because you cannibalized it. Would you happen to have a picture of the top part of your old mount? I think I've confirmed that the SI Prelude does use the short mount like I suspected but I'm trying to get visual proof.

I'll get pics up tomorrow. The mount is that hydraulic one. Just like the accord. But, I think the crossmember is what's different. I will get some measurements to clear everything up

Weeeee!!! Haven't touched the thing since summer. It'll probably still continue to sit until it starts warming up. I have been too busy to touch the car, and the fact that it's still about 45 mins away from home doesn't help :(

Such fun old times seeing this thread!!!

Almost 10 years later and still no big updates… hope all the OGs around here are doing well!! Finally getting a real “shop” to work on my cars and hoping to bring the “new” old chassis back to life. Hoping to turn this into a nice street/drag and drive car by mid summer

Don’t expect anything different from me when it comes to plans though :flip:

EDIT- does anyone use this forum anymore? I’m pretty sure everyone is on Facebook nowadays, right?

Glad to see there’s still some activity in here!!! Will be a long process before the new chassis is back on the road! Gotta get the “shop” set up first. Car lift will the first big thing! Have my Subaru that I need to finish up before the accord! Subaru will be my “no prep” race car. Will see if I get a thread started in that too.
