I have a 1987 Accord LXI. I have the problem where the car shudders/stutters and the FI light comes on after the engine warms up. Like others have said once the light comes on the car does run better. Withing the last few weeks I have had the fuel filter replaced, the injectors cleaned and one of the injectors replaced. I have seen others who have this problem, but no one seems to say if they ever resolved it and how. I do not work on cars myself so I am hesitant to keep throwing $ at a mechanic who thinks I am crazy because the car never does this when he drives it. How is this problem accurately diagnosed???

I know what you mean. I too have a 87 Accord LXi Sedan and I have the same issue. I have also noticed that I am yet to see what actually resolves this issue. I'm aware of the fact that it has to do with the something having to do with fuel (hence the FI for fuel injection) but I'm not sure what the correct action is to resolve it. I think the biggest problem is that people fix the issue and then don't feel the need to tell everyone that the issue is resolved because they don't come back to the forum because their issue is resolved. If you come up with a solution, please post, because I would LOVE to know.
Welcome to the site!
When the light comes on, look under the left front seat with the engine running. You'll see a plastic cover with a small removable tab. Pop the tab off and you'll see a blinking led. Count how many times it blinks and post up. 1 long blink is 10, 1 short blink is 1. There will be a long pause between codes. We can help diagnose from there. It could be one of 20 or so codes. When a critical component is faulty, the ecu goes into limp mode bypassing whatever is causing the problem which is probably why it runs better with the light on.
