So, I've been on the sight awhile now, doing mostly reading, I usually use this place as a reference page, it can also be good for a laugh or two.
Figured it was well past time to say "OHAI!" soooo, there it was.. At any rate, I drive a 'stock' 89 Accord that looks like it's been through hell and back, needs lots of TLC for sure, however, it was a steal at 700$ ;)
Since purchase, shortly after Christmas, i've replaced the entire 'cooling system' from the Radiator, to the Heater Core, all hoses, thermostat, water pump, etc.
According to the previous owner, I am oficially the 3rd he 'knows of' o.O him and his brother got the bright idea to turn it into a 'race car', so there's plenty of things missing... The inside is trashed, in short, all that's there, are front and back seats, a shoddy dash, and that's about it.
No power steering, and on the up side, converted from auto to manual, 'new' engine as he put it, an A20A3 that looks quite dirty, and a 'refurbished/rebuilt' tranny.
Pleasure meeting you all, pictures up eventually. :)

Welcome to the site. :D can't wait to see pictures.

You never know, I got the car from Grovetown on CL, it was a shot in the dark but I needed wheels, and thus far, it's been rolling, not without a few overheating issues along the way, but you'll see.
With any luck Roo you'll see sometime this upcoming week LoL

wow how long ago was that, I saw that car on CL a while back I think now that you mention it. There seemed to be a lot of 90's model basket cases in Grovetown there for a while too.

Yepp, I got the car the end of Dec/Begining of January of this year. Guy was asking 800, I got it for 7, let me try to hunt down a few pictures.

Don't mind the date :P I just happen to have the magical ability to post pictures of the past, form the future! >.<
Doesn't look bad.
XD the rattle can Monster is different though.
Anything under the hood?
J. McNeal
04-29-2011, 04:18 AM
I'll have to get new under the hood pictures, changed a bit since I bought it, the monster stickers are off, the greenies are still there though, can't miss them :\ the guy before me had monster crap all over the car, on the back, both sides, the front, it was terrible, 45 minutes and 1 razor blade later, it was all gone. ;) Now i've just gotta do front suspension, new battery and connectors, should be good till Sept (hopefully) after that.
Then I go to BCT and AIT for the Army, and when I get back, car's getting spoiled! <3
More pictures will be up either later today, or perhaps tomorrow before work. :)

The story behind the exhaust that's in my trunk/backseat...
"I was backing out of a dirt driveway, there was a lip in the sidewalk I didn't see.. The muffler slammed into it, not going very fast, but with enough force to break it just past the cat, got out of the car, sighed, jacked the car up right there, bashed the heat shield up to the exhaust so it wouldn't drag, drove it home.. The next morning I replaced all the grommets, and it seemed fine, the brake was more of a 'crack' at the time, and it was holding, so I drove on it for a few.... Weeks.. Before while driving down Washington rd [one of our busier roads here in town] I hear a pop, then the dreaded sound of metal dragging against the road.. I pulled off into a parking lot, undid the grommets, and the whole exhaust fell on the ground... So... I put it in the trunk.. Sigh :( I need a welder..
well first I gotta say, I went WTF!!!!!!!!! when I saw your battery on the other side. lol. Didn't expect that. as for a intake, just run down to autozone cones aren't that expensive. you can probably pick up door panels from the junk yard. *I don't have any either, but I'm going to make my own* as for the exhaust, Just take it to a customer shop, *mine was "custom exhaust"* they only charged 120$ for the cat-back. *had my own muffler* its well worth getting a new exhaust at this point.
As for the steering wheel they aren't that hard to get off, just a couple of screws and a bolt, just go to the JY and get one. :D well worth it if you want the original one.
Good luck and keep us up to date. :D

Coupes ftw!
Is there a story on the battery relocation? You've got some work to do man but looks like you're already on the right track.
If you need any help finding the original colored interior parts I can lend a hand. There are a couple coupes with the original tan/ivory interior here in Phoenix.

I have no idea about the battery, I want to move it to the trunk just to have a 'tidier' engine bay, as for the exhaust, I I want all new pipes, they can use that muffler, I got so much else to do first though, it NEEDS new front struts, alignment, 2 front tires, a new battery and connectors, it's not really 'safe' to drive :\
But, for like 700$ what do you expect right? I've already replaced the entire cooling system myself, Radiator to heater core, all hoses, water pump, thermostat, etc..
It's been one heck of a project, but it's my daily driver, so i'm working a lot to try to get $$$ together to get her 'safe' ;) this will probably be my 'update' thread till I get some extra cash to put it into a proper build thread and become a 'legit' member. :P
Thanks for the replies!! <3

Man I would give my left ear to have some original coupe door panels, he didn't have them [of course] when I bought the car, I want to do the inside black/tan and I think I'll keep the outside a flat black when it's all done.

Okay so in exchange for some door panels I get to se someone give up their left nut? That seems fair and entertaining enough. :) pet me know a place and time. Lol
On a serious note, when you're ready and have the more important things out of the way get in touch with me buddy ill be more than glad to help you out man.

Welcome to the board! Looks like you have your hands full there. The previous owner must have gotten hassled by the cops CONSTANTLY with it all done up Monster stylie like that. I'm not sure what your plans are for the car, but have you considered that it might be more worth your while to find a better starter car? Anyway, good luck with everything.

Where are all the body pics at? Lets see the outside.....................................
Looks like a good day or two of work ...Make a list and check it twice at the Junk yard ....And put it back together ...
The stereo needs to go back in the right spot and you need the get that peace where it is now .. Thats about a 5 dollar part at the junkyard .
Check both seat belts to make sure they both work....Another thing to get fro the junk yard..5 bucks each .
Just keep the connectors that are there and leave the batterie where its at ..No need to put it in the trunk..Big waist of time...And i like it over there . Leave it ..
And the door panels will probably run ya 40 for both...
Someone can re weld that exhaust back in for ya if u can find a small shop somewhere where the mechanic runs the front desk too...You gotta find someone local like that that u can run to for help and someone that wont take your money like a franchise shop.
And get the exhaust out of the interior dude you messed up the back seat now...it looked clean...And the front seat covers are garbage even if the seat looks worn go with it
And how your talkin its like you dont have a steal thats a clean engine bay if you clean it up ...And it looks like who ever had it had the knowledge about it and its probably good ...I think it looks like if you just finish where the dude left off your in good shape...Doesnt look like much to me.

At J, definitely put the battery back where it goes or relocate it to the trunk. It is not safe there.

Ive got a whole exhaust sys you can have but it needs to be welded up to the collector I think. It's made from stock parts but it's far from stock. Noisy out the back but not inside.
We seem to have a shortage of 3gen at the local yard, I couldnt believe it when I went last week! \Columbia has a bunch of them though, Ive been up there a time or two with some luck.

Can ~have~? I think he said the muffler was GReddy, I need new pipes for sure, I looked up the augusta pullapart and they only had 1 accord, and a 2nd gen prelude, and that's when I looked it up like 2 weeks ago or so.
I think i'ma buy some struts this upcoming friday, tires and alignment are next, then i'll see what else is a 'problem' aside from the exhaust.... Which is next, then i'm gonna get ahold of dacantu for some door panels at least, then do some SERIOUS cleaning! ;) gonna be busy busy busy!
Random question though... How did I mess up the back seat? ;) I just dropped it forward, and the only part of my car the exhaust pipes actually touch are the front passenger seat, which is covered, the back metal of the back seat, and my trunk, which has no liner in it or anything, after some cleaning i'll pop the seats up and take the covers off to take pictures of 'em, they're pretty filthy ^.^
Roo, let me know about that exhaust!

Question... How do you guys deal with rust so it doesn't come back? The previous owner said he spent a few back to back weekends sanding away the rust, buuuut, as it would seem, it's starting to come back, the most of it is on the roof, a little on the hood, but nothing major, a few odd lines of rust, but the roof looks like this..

one way is to grind the hell outta it and use a rust converter / remover like navel jelly ( be careful products like these usually have some kinda of corrosive acid in them) or even better is getting some POR-15
2oodoor
05-10-2011, 03:40 AM
I wouldnt "grind" it , esp on the hood or top, it risks warping the whlole panel.
You can use 60 grit on an orbital sander.
Looks like you could just go over it good with 100 to 150 grit to get that surface stuff off and then take it down with 180 and reprime. There are several primers out there that turn black (rust converter) and work very well and killiin the rust from coming back. The issue then will be letting it cure out good before resanding it, to then start applying surface primer to smooth it down good enough for a semi flat paint job I believe you said you wanted.
The exhaust was on my sedan at one point. Im 99.9% positive it will be quieter than what you had/have.. but it still sounds racy. It has a 32 inch smittys glasspact in place of the cat, and then streight out the back with oem pipe to a resonator tip. I cut the header off it, so it may work well with your set up if you reuse your flex pipe flange to weld to it so it fits your bolt up collector if that is what you have.
It is just sitting out going to waste, I wouldnt be using it for a while anyway so its best put to use if you want it. If not thats cool too.
J. McNeal
05-10-2011, 10:10 AM
I'll have to get it from you sometime Roo, I got a buddy who can weld pretty well, him and his friend did a custom exhaust at his house for his wife's civic, he said he'd help me out, let me know when you're available, i'll pm you mu number, I got the next few days off, till friday anyway.

I'm thinking about it the paintjob ;) I have soooo many plans for this car, unfortunately the big ones like engine swap, etc, are going to have to wait till next April after I get done with BCT&AIT [going Army], so till then i'll be doing simple things, brakes, suspension, exhaust and headers, a little engine stuff, spark plugs an wires, and a lot of cleaning.

Well, I haven't updated this in like a year, and i've gotten a few things done, as of April 12, 2012 i'm officially out of Army training, back home [i'm a Reservist] and going to school at a local Technical College, doing Core Classes this semester, and I start their Automotive program in the Fall [August].
I've gotten some work recently done on the car, and to give a general list of it all: i replaced the front struts because they were gone, car rode like a boat, got the exhaust fixed up, put Roo's pipe on there, and my buddy put my old muffler on the end of it, i've got a set of DC headers I still gotta put on, having some issues with disconnecting.. [RuSt] I got door panels, an overhead light, a new 3rd brake light, and since right before I went to Basic Training last August some lady backed into my car, I had to replaced the brake light too {did them both so they matched}. I also got some mud flaps, cause they're spiffy to me and I like them. ;) Pictures below!

Good progress!
There was a mint interior out there two weeks ago for a hatch, a lot of that fits a coupe too
J. McNeal
05-31-2012, 06:09 PM
I was picking apart another accord, the hatch didn't have the door-seatbelt slots I needed on the panels [I pulled one of them off though] ;) I plan on going back out there next week and trying to get some more of the interior, she's been giving me trouble though, I think i'm gonna try to bypass the heater core for the summer, cause even after being replaced last year, it still occasionally leaks onto the passenger side. You still got that wing/fin/spoiler, whatever your preference of name, laying around?? I still wanna get that from you ;) I live even closer now lol, i'm across the street from Egg-roll Express, Evanston Dr.
