Several threads state that in order to reconnect the sunroof drain tube and the antenna motor drain tube to the "Y"-connector one must remove the fuse box. What's the best way to do that?

it's easy, you disconnect the battery, remove the large plugs plugged into the front of it, take out the nuts, and you should be able to pull it off of the studs and out of the way without disconnecting everything

What about the steel bracing that runs diagonally across the front of it?

the tube? you take the nuts off of the fusebox, one on each side, slide it out a bit, and it comes off those studs and drops down. you just have to move it around a bit.

Does yours have a structural steel tube that runs diagonally across the front of the fuse box?

It will take me about 10 minutes to get you some pics.

yes, they all have it, once you take the nuts off and take out the plugs plugged into the front of the fuse box, the fuse box is designed to come out far enough to be able to drop down, while clearing that

EASY is not the adjective I would have chosen to describe this operation. It was an hour and a half of hell.

copy the image link under the photo, it's not that bad to do, I'm building stuff behind my fuse box right now and i've probably had it out 15-20 times this week checking clearance

why did you remove the bracket holding the headlight control? the stud on it holds the fuse box, that could have stayed in place. it looks like you removed extra stuff that didn't need to come out, if you remove the plugs on the front, and take off the two nuts, it can be worked out of there while leaving all that in place

this is the same bracket here, in while I was mocking up a template to fit behind it, it can stay attached to the footwell while the fusebox is out, the welded on nut to the left is where the headlight control, gray box attaches, if you slide the fuse box off of the stud on the right side first, it can then tilt, to come off of the left stud, and come out from behind the brace

I didn't remove the bracket for the Headlight Retractor Control Unit. It simply is not visible in the photos.

when you put it back on, tilt the fuse box at an angle, slide it behind the brace, until it's over the left stud, then tilt it up and slide on the right stud, there may be a wire bundle that gets caught above it, if you don't see it, you'll pull your hair out trying to figure out why the fuse box won't go in place, it just needs to be pushed out of the way and it will go right in place

Thanks. That is indeed the sequence I used when I reassembled. Hopefully the drain tubes will stay put for a long time to come.
