i got a 81 honda accord it was sitting awhile and torn down by someone else, blown head gasket. replaced gasket and head got everything bolted back up but cant figure out how to bolt up the alternator. no good pics in either of the repair manuals i have, if any body could hook me up with some pictures that would be great. i just cant find one at the pick a part to see how it bolts up but there pretty rare i guess.

Hope this helps... There's a mount on the bottom of the block that fits between the two ears on the bottom of the alternator. That mount bolts to the block, so if it was unbolted or missing, that might be the cause of your confusion.

The mount I'm talking about is #4 in this diagram:

Yours could be mounted up like in this pic since you have AC as well but its hard to tell.

does anyone have a better picture of the alternator mounting location or parts diagram with the ac unit because there is no room with those two black cans and hoses

LOL It seems to me that Honda couldn't make up it's mind! I've seen 3 different setups now! I wonder why they kept swapping the AC Comp. and Alternator positions? Random question though guys: I have AC and my setup is the one where the alt. sits above the engine mount, the problem is that my alt. pulley has actually melted a hole into my upper timing belt cover. Has this happened to ayone else here? just curious if this is a common occurance.

That hasn't happened to me, but I'm not surprised. My water pump pulley has melted a huge groove in my lower cover, and the alternator belt has put a nice groove in it as well... I've got the alternator on the front of the engine...

That happened to me. This is caused by loosen/worn bracket/alt bolts.

SO.....what you guys are saying....and I hate myself for saying this:
Is that Accords AREN'T perfect?
I refuse to believe you. My car is the only Accord EVER with this problem, and it's all my fault, it's NOT a design flaw I swear!!! LOL
Accords are perfect, end of story. ROFL

if anyone needs it, I have that lower solid looking alternator mount, it's from an 81 civic, but i'm thinking it's the same, I also have an alternator fan that fits on these alternators, they are supposed to be impossible to find, I may even have the pulley. If anyone needs any of this stuff you can have it for postage

On the 3gs, the timing covers warp and get chewed up by the pulleys. There isn't a lot of clearance in there and Honda cut it a little too close.

Yeah mine is warped. I've heated it and flattened it back out a few times, but it keeps warping back...
