does anyone know the emission standards for 87 lxi's? or know how to find them, ive been on google for hours and i cant find anything. i used my schools general repair site and i cant find anything. so i thought i ask here, my school has an emissions tester and im trying to get mine to pass while i still have a shop open to me for free so i would like to find out the min. and max. ratings.

The limits are going to be different for every state, make, model, year and option package. Best bet is to get an emissions test in your state. Your printed test results should include the min and max allowable limits.

As the Doc (Dr_Snooz) said emission standards vary depending on what jurisdiction you reside in.

Where I live for my 1989 carbed LX the max allowable limits are as follows:
1) HC (hydrocarbons) 93.0 ppm
2) CO (carbon monoxide) 0.84 %
3) NOx (oxides of nitrogen) 1223 ppm

The above are maximums for the driving test. Car is operated on a dyno for 90 seconds at 50 Km/h (30 mph) with a probe in the tailpipe.

There is also an idle test after the driving test that has max allowable limits of
113 ppm HC and 0.88% CO

The only Honda published limit I have ever come across for a 3G is idle CO of 0.1%.

The limits for my 3G are printed on the emissions test report I get for the annual emissions test here in B.C. ($23/test/year) No matter the limits, a properly tuned 3G should have no trouble passing emissions testing. So far so good for me and my 3G with our provincial Air Care program.
