1988 lxi 5spd

I just bought a lxi 5spd with 229000 miles the body and interior are in incredible shape!
However there is a major lack of power (I live on a mountain) and can't hold the speed limit driving home. I changed spark plugs and air filter.. and I'm trying to change the fuel filter but I am having troublr removing it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

You're starting with the right stuff. Always get the basic maintenance stuff done before beginning the search for more unusual stuff. Is anything else going on or just no power? If just no power, what kind of shape is your cat in? If it gets blocked, you will have just no power.

as far as i know the cat is fine i have receipts in the car showing it was replaced around 190000 so it should be fine..

not if it's been running with a cel the whole time. You have any check engine lights?

Re-gap / replace spark plugs
Theses cars have some balls once their in proper order.... for what they are lol!
