I have a 88 lxi coupe and when I make a turn or a u-turn I get like a popping/grinding noise when the car accelerates while making the turn. Ive noticed this problem on many older/neglected cars. I was just wondering if anyone might know what the problem is and how much it could cost to fix. Also wondering how long I could possibly go without having to fix the problem but at the same time not causing any other problems to the car

You should probably take it to a shop. Be ready to spend a few hundred dollars when you do.

If you have a CV specialist shop around your area, I'd expect it to be around $90

Look up somewhere what a constant-velocity joint is. If that is your problem, you can make them last as long as possible by not putting load on them while the wheel is cranked over. For instance, starting up, give it a little gas, then take your foot off the gas, make the turn, straighten out the wheel, then get back on the gas. Likewise, coast through turns, then only on the gas when you've straightened out.

He doesn't even know what a CV joint is. How is he going to do his own labor?

So should I expect labor fees on top of that 90$ he quoted me?
