hi guys. im a new bee, i have an 81 hatch, manual. needs replacing. jobber has an 81 hatch manual and an 83 manual, but cant remember which is which. Interchangers say only another 81 from the same config.(hatch, no PS) will fit. I've done much searching for why, but no definite answers, OFFTHAHOOK had a poston this...he wasn't sure why, maybe doing with shift linkage? Well, lookin at the two and mine, there's no diff...look like copies...my tran had a number GK6069841 (is that a dated production number?) neither of the jobber's tran's had a number. Is there a way to tell difference, so I dont have to guess, and install the wrong one???
thanx, and i love this site. Salud.

I wouldn't be surprised if the transaxle didn't change much externally 1979-1983... though '82-3 Accords had a slightly higher, cruisier final drive ratio ( can't remember exact figures ) and dropped the hydraulic clutch actuation for basic cables so checkout that area for appropriate mountings/clutch fork.
Shift linkage & its body mounting was different for '81 models compared to earlier ones, but may have changed again for the new body.
Power steering had an additional mechanical speed sensor that fitted between the speedo cable & transaxle to control power assistance required, I don't think that should affect transaxle much.

o.k. thanks, 79accord. if for sure the 83 trans was cabled, that might help...i know for sure one of those had a slave cyl., the other I dont remember, may have just seen the mount holes and assumed it was removed...ps: how do i get the smilies over here?

81-83 I know for sure were cable actuated clutch.
