Of 3g accords with working A/C!

After two years of chasing electrical demons, sorting out what all I needed to swap from Keihin to Denso compressors, and chasing down leaks, I finally have working A/C! Maybe not for long, as the whole setup is pretty wonky.

What I'm Currently running is:

R12 Mineral Oil
R134A Refrigerant
Dryer that has been exposed to 2 years of open system (I replaced it when I originally started working on the system)
Expansion valve, same as dryer but not as essential.

Overall, the temps aren't as low as they probably should be, but they are much better than 110F outside. I was getting high 50's, low 60's vent temps at idle.

Next spring I will purchase a new dryer and expansion valve, flush the system, pull a good, hard vacuum, and recharge. Trace down any small leaks I probably have (25 year old rubber after all).

Anyway, thanks for reading.

If you vacuum down the system for a couple hours, all the moisture in the drier will evaporate. If you have dirt, that's a different story, but the moisture can be removed.

Glad you got it working. Mine just pooped out again. :(

AMAZING how they sell out of those around here, hard to even snag one sometimes.

50-60 degree air is acceptable if ambient is 110, wholly crap...

once you have the inside pulled down, turn the fan blower down to low and watch how far it drops temp, the slower the air going thru the evap coils, the more air temp it grabs from it.

I will have to try this. I've only been running it on HIGH

Nice shit

Make sure you've got the fan on "REC" so it cools the already cooled air.

Now that one I figured out pretty quickly

Did you also clean out the evaporator of any leafs and degree? Can cause issues with cooling as well.

Man, I'm not part of the club and it sucks big time but congrats on the fix.

Did this originally when i replaced the expansion valve. When i was hunting for leaks I dropped that stupid box again and there was a TON of leaves. So yes, its been cleaned out. I'm not complaining anymore about vent temps, its way nicer than driving with the windows down.

Heres my wife to be's facebook post from last night (her first time riding in it with me since i got it fixed): "Adam fixed his AC!!! I know who is taking me everywhere now!!" Then someone commented and she said this "Yes ma'am it does!! Suddenly his car isn't such a piece o junk! Lol"

How hard is it to get into the evaporator housing just to clean it out?

Not super hard, the first time is a bear. There are like 15 little metal clips all around the box

I think I'll pass on the evap cleanout. I get good, decently cold airflow. Since I have owned the car since 1989 I know it hasn't spend much time sitting outside under trees. I'm sure the thing is plenty dirty, but not a performance issue. It's so miserably hot here right now I hope to do nothing to the car for a couple of months other than drive it.

So, if this club is so exclusive, should all the members with working AC in the northern states and Canada post "Working AC club" in their signiatures? lol

naw you can crack open the box enough to get your hand in there. I used a tooth brush. It really helped get it a little cooler.

EDIT: forgot I had pics too.
