Hey I own an '86 prelude, it's not an accord but it's got the a20a3, so I figured you guys could help me out with a couple of issues. Don't know much about cars, but I am tryin' to learn.
I bought the car around 6 months ago, ever since then it will start up instantly as soon as i turn the key in the morning. after it warms up and sits for longer then 10-15 minutes it takes way longer to start, it always does, it' just annoying, what could that be?

I know when the car is hot inside the main relay could be one of your problems

welcome, just so you know an entire section on your car was added to this site recently, so you are more then welcome here, your car and the third generation accord are pretty much sister cars, as they share a lot in common, and the same issues, as far as your problem, I would also say main relay, or possibly ignition module. I had the same issue with one, it would be fine when it was cold, then the car would die once it started heating up. Get a can of air, the kind you use for dusting, when it won't start when hot, try spraying the ignition module to cool it down, if it starts, there's your problem, it's become sensitive to heat and is on the way out. you can also try this on the main relay, although those are usually caused by bad solder joints, you can open it up and resolder the contacts to fix the problem

you are here, three geez.com, you are also here, classic prelude.com, at the same bat time and same bat channel. click on the 3geez icon at the top of the page, this takes you to the main page, scroll down and you'll also see a prelude section, we have a number of guys who came over from prelude power

Thanks for the replies, it always starts, it just takes way longer, when it finally starts you can smell gas. Someone told me about the relay, I haven't yet tried to check it out. I noticed that it starts easier when i leave the key in the "on" position until the fuel pump stops making noise.

hmmm, it also sounds like you might have weak fuel pump... but to be totally honest you'd notice if you had a weak pump from driving at high rpms, the car has a hard time staying running. Is this thing an AT? if so, there are some things that help you see if its your main relay. Either way, welcome to the board and feel free to post up on the "prelude" section of 3geez.

My main relay is going, and it dosnt happen all the time. Also, if you alwease hear your fuel pump pumping, i'd imagine its not the relay. Sounds like somethin in the fuel delivery system. I like the weak fuel pump theory.. or better yet the regulater, it'd be easyer to find a problem with, too.

You can Definately hear the pump, it only last for a couple of seconds. Is there any way to test the fuel pressure regulator, or the relay. It is an Auto by the way.
