Have you checked the fuse? The short answer is that yes, you can put in an aftermarket switch, but that's getting pretty ghetto. I would do a few trips to the junkyard before resorting to that.

You might just need to clean the contacts. I think there's a thread in the how to explaining how. My dims got to where they were cuttin out all the time so ip put in a floor mounted dimmer switch. Worked great! I drive with my left hand so no more letting go of the steering wheel to dim lights when a car is coming. I kept it like that for 3 years until I broke the wiper arm off and had to replace the switch. I miss my floor mounted dimmer

I followed that HOW TO and it has worked for me 3 Times already.I just had to re-do my headlight swith about a month ago.works like brand new again.

It really is easy to do,remove steering wheel, pull switch, pay close attention to how you take it apart, and clean up the contacts,I had one wire on my switch that you can tell was getting hot,it looked charred, like it was on fire, cut the wire, cleaned it up and resoldered it.now I FEEL my switch is safer then ever.
