Pretty cool, except it says that the engine is "16V." I checked mine and it said the same thing. Mostly correct, though.

when the vin starts with an H, it means the car was made in japan. 1 means made in america. my 4dr started with a 1, but my hatch was made in japan...

Eighth is the car designation (for example: LX-i coupe), and the ninth is just a check digit.

yeah, my 8th number is a 0 for the 87 accord .... Odd.

James, my 87 and 89 were both made in Saitama, Japan too

Did the production sequence restart in 88? i have a much higher number on the 87 than the 89 =/

I believe they did. Someone I know has an '87 with a higher number then my '89.

I do feel that the Japanese built cars were bolted together better than the ones made in Ohio. I don't have any real evidence to back that up, but they just feel more solid.

I'm pretty pleased with my American made coupe. Its built quality is vastly superior to most Hondas I've owned or driven. Most Hondas have pretty flappy bodies and develop innumerable rattles and squeaks the older they get. Mine is still very solid without any body looseness.

At the risk of looking foolish, I would say the American made Hondas are better than the Japanese made ones only because the plant, all the robots and machine tools used to built it were newer at the time.

I don't have any real evidence to back that up, but they just feel more solid.thats because they were still mostly hand built, the North American ones were some of the first ones built with automation, the Japanese also have a very strict work ethic based on honor, they want to produce the best product they can
