Does anyone know what it takes to remove the AC compressor from the car? It seems 23-9 is missing from the online 86 manual???

easy!
take off the belt
disconnect the lines, just careful you dont get refrigerant on your hands or eyes.
unbolt compressor and throw in the bin :)

The belt has been gone along with many of the other AC components. I can make out how many bolts there are to actually get the compressor out of the car. I assume you have to pull it out of the top which also requires pulling the power steering pump.

I seem to recall when working on mine that removing the nearby cooling fan assembly gave better access. I needed to replace that attached discharge hose anyway. If you are repairing the AC, stop in at Lowes or similar location and get rubber plugs to insert into the lines to keep dirt and moisture out while redoing/replacing compressor. Be sure to replace reciever/dryer too.
