Hey I'm having quite some trouble working out what this noise is. My car is an 89 aerodeck 2l exi with the 4 wheel anti lock braking system. When i start my car or soon after there is a strange whirring/humming noise. But then i drive for a minute/30 seconds and it goes away. While the noise is going on my alb seems to cut in way too soon at points when there is no possible chance of the wheels locking up. It occasionally does it after driving for a while but mainly on start up. This is literally the only problem my car has so it's bugging me somewhat and if it's braking related needs to be sorted.

Any help much appreciated. John.

unfortunately i doubt you will get much help with this here. not many of these cars came with ABS in the united states, maybe some of our netherlands folks can help you out since they seem to be where the most aero's are...

yeah we didn't get the aero out here.

as for just a normal comment about the ABS pumps themselves, it's no entirely abnormal for the pump to check itself on startup or to pressurize, much like a fuel pump. in that time you can hear a bit more noise from the pump. if it goes away after a minute or less it's probably fine. i would idle the car for about 1 minute with your foot on the brake before driving it and see how it does.
