Im guessing this means a blown head gasket? I bought the 88 Accord with 155k on the clock for only $300 so Im not losing too much money, but Im curious if anyone has direct experience replacing the HG? Prior owners thought it was a rear main seal leak, but Im not finding enough oil in that area to support that. Instead, as I began prying off parts and inspecting, I noticed the air filter itself was soaked with oil in the bottom third. To get that much oil on the air filter I would think the HG has to be faulty.....

what do you think guys?

A failed PCV and/or excessive blow by?

PVC system needs servicing, if you take the oil filler cap off when it is running and you get a lot of smoke then it's maybe some blowby, has to be a good bit though since the PVC sounds to be lax.

HG would not normally be the first thing to look at on that issue.

Sounds like blow-by. Does it smoke out of the tailpipe? You might try a compression check if it is convenient.
