So I decoded my vin from info online:

J = Japan
H = Honda
M = Passenger Car, Built in Japan
CA5 = Accord
4 = 2 Door Hatchback, Auto
7 = Accord Hatchback & LXI

H = 1987
C = Saitama, Japan

It says it is Accord Hatchback & LXI, well its not an LXI, its an 'S' which is a DX. Mine has a carb'd engine, but it also has power steering, was that an option?

does "Accord Hatchback & LXI" actually mean, hatchback OR lxi?
anyone else have an 'S' or 'DX' with this code 7 in there vin??

thanks, but that was not my question at all.

my concern is that my 8'th digit is a 7, which says hatch+lxi
well i have an 87-S so no lxi, and i have confirmed with another 87-S owner that there vin also has a 7 in that position.
so i guess this info should be changed to

7=Hatchback and/or LXI

8th POSITION GRADE
1 = Basic, HF
2 = Standard, DX
3 = GL, GLS, LX
4 = LX-i, SI
5 = Special
6 = Accord Hatchback
7 = Accord Hatchback, LX-i

Fixed, does that help? Can't you tell that multiple numbers in the eighth slot have more than one option?
