The clutch on my '89 DX releases all the way at the top and it appears as there is no more adjustment left. So this means a new clutch cable. BUT - I went to Rock Auto and they have 3 different cables all listed to fit the car. One does not specify the length, the second says it it 60.75" long and the third says 70.5". Anybody have any idea how long the cable actually is? I could order the long one but I don't want the hassle of trying to deal with the extra length.

Anybody - someone must have pulled a clutch cable - there are posts on how hard/easy it is to do - I just want to get the right one.

The 77" one is coded as being for coupes.

Are you sure that you're adjusting the cable correctly? You don't adjust it to change the engagement point. There should be ~6mm (1/4") of free play before the cable begins moving the clutch release arm.

Now I am really confused. Rock Auto has 60" and 70" - Not 75" - I hate to order on and then have to send it back - I have an '89 DX Sedan 4 DR - mmmmmm????

Take your old cable out and measure it,it's not that hard to take out.Are you sure your clutch isn't woren out.

That is what I am going to have to do. I really don't want the car down while I wait for the replacement cable but I guess that is best. And yes I am sure the clutch itself is good as it locks up tight once engaged.

I can't help you with the length issue but have a related problem . . . my cable seems to have stretched-out a bit . . . every once in a while the clutch pedal "hangs free" but only after a cold start-up. I checked everything an found that on cold start . . . when I push the pedal in all the way (the way you must to start the car) . . . the pedal will swing free. I followed the cable and found that the clutch release arm sticks a little and needs only to be bumped and voila! . . . full clutch again. It locks up great and has no feel of slip or wear otherwise. Anybody else have this happen? Suggested cure? The cable actually seems to be too long and I have to bump the clutch release arm to get it back to position, maybe 1/2 inch and it "clicks" back to original, works great after that. Should I use the adjustment screw and take the Slop out? Seems like that will cause the clutch to slip, since it only sticks when cold on start-up when pushed all the way to the floor for starting purposes, works OK the rest of the time. Suggestions? Thanks Clint! My '89 has been a very good car, looks cool too. I'll ask around about your cable length issue, a few friends of mine do some Honda work, maybe one of them had a cable issue. Rocketman
