I'm definitely trying this out on my car, the paint is crappy and the body is screwed up so I will give it a shot.
In the mean time, here is a nice how-to video I found online. Search for "$50 rustoleum roller paint" for other projects

Im going to try this out next spring, flat black or semi-gloss black..
I have nice compressor and sprayers so im not going bother with the rollers.

I did this to my hood a few years back. Planned on doing whole car, but never got to it. It's still holding up fine. Even with the terrible ice and snow we've had past couple years.

It wasn't that car. I think it was semi-gloss black. I've got pics but im gonna have to look for them. Got one while wet... I'll take a pic of current in a bit.

i really disapprove of this, every time your gonna use that roller you will cause it to have a texture. Yah sanding it with 400 grit is one way , but hell i never had to use anything below 600-800 when applying base coat. Rattle cans would be the next best option, you can get a decent finish from it.However the down fall to spray paint is that you have no control over the spray pressure. Big advantage with a spray gun is that you can adjust this. Metallic paints are really touchy, higher air pressure will give you a lighter metallic, lower psi would give you a bit darker.
